( V 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, February 15,1984 Section Two Dutchman Bantams "Player of the Week" Scott Webster No. 30 Goalie Photo Courtesy Lange's Lab Toros Trounce Lindsay As the first round of playoffs continues the Toros won their second game last Saturday as they soundly defeated Lindsay by a score of 10 - 2. The Toros were in no trouble from the opening faceoff as they scored three unanswered goals in the first, outscored the opposition 4 -1 in the second and 3 -1 in the third to end up in double figures. 1 There were 19 penalties called in the game with the Toros serving ten and Lindsay nine. Scott Webster worked the entire three periods and ., although he didn't get his shutout he played a solid game if not a busy one. There were only 14 shots on net and he spent a lot of time watching the play in the opposition's end. The Toros outshol Lindsay by almost 3 -1 which was good practice for their upcoming game with Cobourg on Cobourg's home turf on the 14th and the players know they'll have to be tough as Cobourg is hungry to beat them. Building Supplies Win Young Canada Day Port Hope 4 Toros 5 Before this game a couple of fathers had remarked that in their recent games they had held big leads, but allowed the opposition to tie the game before they eventually won by one goal. Their sons followed in their father's footsteps (skate-steps?) The Toros opened the scoring and had a four goal margin before Port Hope scored four unanswered goals. The Toros played excellent excellent hockey in the first period. Great passing from Nicky Dennis resulted in two goals by Phillip Green. Jeff Acheson scored one on a very thoughtful thoughtful play, he waited for a clear shot before shooting, and it paid off. The fourth goal was scored by Nicky Dennis, with the assist going to Jeff Rohr. After the score was tied it was a great effort by Jim Pithie, he can skate fast when thèneed arises, which put the Toros ahead to stay. Port Hope kept trying but the Building Supplies team 'wood knot' quit. Toros 6 Uxbridge 2 It was a good game for the Toros, they passed the puck well and switched a couple of positions. Michael Colbourne moved up to the wing whilst Paul Hindman moved onto defence. The Toros were full value for the win, and it meant that the team won two in a row. Scoring summary, Jeff Acheson; Ian Knight from Nicky Dennis; Nicky unassisted; unassisted; Jim Pithie, shorthanded; Nicky, shorthanded; Michael Colbourne from Nicky. Whitby 5 Toros 3 One of the best games the Toros have ever played. It was a thoroughly good effort by every boy from goaltender Robert Romano up. Robert made many big saves when Whitby were applying great pressure. At the beginning of the game it looked as though coach Nick Dennis had eventually eventually persuaded the team that passing is the name of the game, because the team made some excellent lead passes to set up good breakout moves. It did not last throughout the game but it was a pleasure to watch. Nicky Dennis opened the scoring with an unassisted goal, then Whitby scored two. Jeff Acheson then scored his third goal of the weekend with the assist going to Marc Peirce, on a power play. Jeremy Laird then scored an unassisted goal with a rink wide rush, a shot and then converted the rebound into a goal. Whitby scored two unanswered unanswered goals in the third period to complete the scoring. scoring. The Toros kept trying but they had no luck. A special thanks to the officials who did a fine inh in this Pame.
