FEB 18/84 By Janice Seto, Editor The lines of parents and students seeing teachers and principals heralds the coming of semi-annual doom: the report cards. Fortunately, this week had many more moments of joy with Heart Fund Week. Our week has raised funds with the sale of dance and hockey tickets and Valentine's Day carnations. The students and staff had a very competitive hockey game which ended with a score of 11 to G in favour of the staff, something the student team would rather forget. Barry Yates, the referee, complimented the staff on a very interesting game. Drifting through the halls at B.H.S. are the rumours of the musical "King and I." There are whispers that the cast has been decided upon and faint bars of songs from the musical are heard. The music, produced produced by Rodgers and Hammerstein, contains familiar tunes like 'Shall We Dance?' and 'Young Lovers.' Cast and crew, presently humming 'Whistle a Happy Tune', may be encountered by Mssrs. Sheridan, Metcalf, and Lindop humming 'Whistle While You Work!' Assemblies prevailed last week. Ryerson Polytechnical Institute hosted a well-attended well-attended information session. The Law assembly and the Student Services course selection sessions were also well attended. attended. We at Bowmanville High School have been closely following following and cheering on the progress of our Canadian athletes at Sarajevo. We hope you are enjoying the games as well. Keep on going! On Sunday, church services were held as usual. The choir sang an anthem. Rev. Rutherford Rutherford continued with the prophets of the old Testament and spoke on Elijah who was made king. God spoke to him several times before he became became king. King Allah considered considered Elijah a trouble maker when he claimed the Lord had told him to go ahead and become leader. Elijah had performed several miracles as the widow from Zarc- phath's son had died and through faith Elijah had brought him back to life. Also he caused a drought through God's help. Finally, Elijah and King Almb agreed to make a sacrifice on a pile of wood and they would have it burn through faith. King Ahab prayed to his Baal idols but no fire started. When Elijah prayed to God the pile ignited and was burned. Of course this also ended the drought and all the Baal prohpets were scigcd. Elijah was the only prophet that did not sin after being God's leader for sometime sometime as David and Solomon had. Mr, Smith and Mr. Peacock took up the offering, Our U.C.W. Hopefully, Hopefully, our cheerful 18 year old niece will be able to climb out of her wheelchair and start therapy to walk on her own again. I'm sure that I am joined by many Statesman readers from this area when we express express our appreciation to Dean Joncas of Pontypool for the fine job he is doing of writing up the hockey news involving the local leagues. His unique style, descriptive expletives and colourful phrases could make even the most lacklustre game interesting. interesting. And it has one great advantage advantage over talking 'to Dean personally - When you have had your fill, you just quit reading - you don't even have to walk away. Keep up the good work Deano!
