Prout's Raiders Win Championship in Port Hope Pee Wee Tournament Prout's Raiders finish in last place after meeting Hutton Transport on Jan. 28 in Pee Wee Town League action. Prout's Radiers made a good effort throughout the game, but Hutton's wheels crushed them with a score of 8 - 1. Scoring Prout's only goal of 1 the game was David Kichko. Win Championship Prout's Raiders were invited to the Port Hope Pee Wee Tournament on Feb. 4th. It was time for Prout's to put their troubles behind them and start putting things together and they certainly did that. The first game started in the dressing room with a lot of pre-game instructions and proper mental attitude. It was all the coaches could do to hold them back at the start of the game. Prout's first game was against the Grafton Club and they hit the ice skating and working their butts off as Ivan McDonald opened the scoring, assisted by David Kichko. Prout's scored their second goal in the first period by David Kichko with' a neat setup setup by Gilbert Holder and Ivan McDonald. In the second period, with good solid team effort, Prout's Duanne Adams scored, assisted by Kevin Cosgrove. Prout's Gilbert Holder skating and setting up plays, scored their fourth goal, assisted by David Kichko. The Grafton Club came bouncing back with a goal showing some fine passing and skating themselves with some good defensive work from Chris Raby and Murray Charland helped keep their team spirit up as David Kichko scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Gilbert Holder. The Grafton Club scored their second goal early in the third period, but with good steady goaltending from Prout's Billy Burgess held the score down as the Grafton Club tried a screen shot from the blue line. Coming up with great defensive work from Prout's also was Glen Murdoch and Paul Crago. All Prout's members gave 100% as Ivan McDonald scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Paul Crago and Gilbert Holder. Final score of the game Prout's 6 - Grafton 2. Prout's Raiders Gilbert Holder was awarded with a new stick as he was voted M.V.P. of the game. Congratulations Gilbert, you deserved it. Prout's second game was against Baltimore. Prout's all fired up and ready to go again, scored early in the first period by David Kichko, assisted by Gilbert Holder. This game provied to be a little bit tougher as Prout's forwards had to do a lot of back checking. Prout's Andy Big Canoe did a fine job here along with Ivan McDonald. Prout's defenseman Glen Murdoch came up with another good game as did his partner Chris Raby. Murray Charland made a couple of key plays with Paul Cragoe stopping Baltimore at the blue line. The Baltimore club scored two goals in the second period to take the lead, but Prout's weren't about to give up. They wanted that game to put them in the finals. Prout's needed and got good support from their goalie Billy Burgess again. All Prout's members kept plugging away as they tied the game early in the third period. Scoring Prout's goal was Ivan McDonald, assisted by David Kichko. This really lifted the team as the game was 2 - 2 in regulation time. Under tournament rules the overtime when five minutes sudden-death periods, as required with the buzzer to be sounded after each minute to stop play and permit one player from each team to be removed from the ice. In the overtime period. there were scoring opportunities for both clubs. With three players for Prout's left on the ice Paul Crago, Ivan McDonald and Gilbert Holder the threesome moved the puck down in the Baltimore end and with 10 seconds to go Gilbert Holder scored the winning goal. This' game put Prout's in the A championship game. Again, congratulations to Gilbert anti his teammates. You earned it. Prout's third game for the championship was against a Port Hope team, Richards Printing. Prout's took to the ice with that winning attitude again, there was no thought of giving up this time either. Prout's put on a lot of pressure with some forechecking by Kevin Cosgrove and Andy Big Canoe which enabled their centreman Duanne Adams to score early in the first period. Coming up with another good defensive game by moving the puck around were Prout's Chris Raby and Murray Charland. Prout's second goal of the game was scored by David Kichko while showing some fine moves to go around the Port Hope players. In the second period, Port Hope put the pressure on, but Prout's goalie Billy Burgess stood his ground and held them off. Some good two-way hockey being played by Prout's defensemen Paul Crago and Glen Murdoch helped ward off the attackers throughout the game also. Prout's third goal was scored by Gilbert Holder as he and Ivan McDonald went wheeling and passing down the ice, with Ivan picking up the assist. Port Hope finally hit the goal sheet, but it turned out to be the only goal they were to score. Front's came back in the third period as Paul Crago set up Ivan McDonald for his first goal of the game. Again with some good checking and moves to get around the Port Hope players, Prout's Andy Big Canoe scored unassisted. Mid-way in the third period a picturesque play by Ivan McDonald as Paul Crago passed across to right wing, Ivan picking it up crossed the blue line, as the Port Hope defenseman fell in front of Ivan, he cut to the centre, half jumping over the falling player and let a back-hand shot go to the bottom right corner. Great move Ivan. Final score of the game 6 -1 for Prout's. This game gave Prout's the championship and individual trophies as well as a happy bunch of boys. Well done guys. It was a well run tournament with a lot of fine hockey played by all the teams. Heritage House Major Atoms Start Playoff The Heritage House Major Atoms started their round robin playoff series on Saturday, Feb. 11th in Trenton. The Toros controlled controlled the play for the majority of the game, but had to settle settle for a 3-3 tie. Bowmanville started strongly and took an early 1-0 lead on the strength of Ryan Putnam's power play goal from Ronnie Luxton. Trenton tied the game at 1, when they too scored on a powerplay goal. The Toros came charging back when Chris Brown swatted a Shawn McFadyen relay past the Trenton goalie to put the Toros in front 2-1. Trenton scored once more to end the first period tied at two apiece. In the second period, the Toros continued to press and it finally paid off when Ronnie Luxton took a shot from the point after making a nice play to keep the puck in Trenton's end. The puck was deflected into the corner where Ryan Putnam scooped it up and fed a perfect perfect pass onto Matthew Doughty's stick. .Matthew, made no mistake as he de- . sposited it behind Trenton's Trenton's goalie to give Bowmanville Bowmanville a 3-2 lead. Both teams played well with the Mighty Bulls, continuing continuing to press, but just couldn't capitalize on their many scoring opportunities as Trentons goalie Jeff Robson Robson came up time and again with some fine saves. Not to. be outdone, Bowmanville's goaltending tandem of Geoff Smith and Jason His-, cock made some nice saves, although they weren't tested as often. With just 1:19 left in the game, Trenton broke in to score the equalizer, and the contest ended tied at 3. The Heritage House boys played well and hustled for three periods. With any luck at all, they could be starting down the playoff trail with two points instead of one. Good effort, boys! MOTORCYCLE SHOP LTD. OPEN HOUSE 2069 SIMCOE ST.
