The Heritage House Major Atom Toros played their last game of the round robin play- • off series on Thursday, March 8th, defeating Trenton 4 - 2. The victory gives the Toros a two win, two loss and two games tied record for six points and second place in their division. The Bowmanville boys scored twice in the first and added two more in the third period. Trenton took advantage advantage of the Toros' late second period lapse by scoring their two goals in a three minute span. Jason Kiely opened the Toros' scoring midway through the first, wristing a ripper into the Trenton cage, assisted by Geoff Goode and Kevin Roberts. Geoff Goode scored Bowmanville's second goal, firing a high shot over the Trenton goalie's shoulder with Martin d'Entremont and Chris Brown drawing assists. In the second period, the Toros came up flat, allowing Trenton to score two goals which tied the game. The Toros came back to life in the 3rd period showing much more hustle and desire. Greg White and Ryan Putnam combined to send a relay over to Shawn McFadyen who blasted a bullet by the Trenton goalie to give Bowmanville a 3 - 2 lead. Near the end of the third period, Geoff Goode scored the Toros' 4th goal, lofting another high shot over the shoulder of the Trenton goalie, assisted by Kent Vanderheyden and Kevin Roberts. The Toros will have to play consistently for three periods if they want to be successful. Keep Hustling Boys! Orono was the exhibition game opponent of the Toros on Saturday, March 10th at Darlington. Despite a lacka- daisacal effort and far too many giveaways, the Toros did manage enough firepower to skate away with a 5 - 2 victory. Bowmanville's Matthew Doughty notched his 42nd goal of the year, unassisted to give the Toros an early 1 - 0 lead. Twenty-six seconds later, Geoff Goode scored Bowmanville's Bowmanville's second goal, assisted by Ryan Putnam and Chris Brown. Orono scored a goal late in the period to narrow the Toros' lead to 2 -1. Jason Kiely scored the only goal of the second period to put the Toros ahead 3 - 1, assisted by Jeff Flintoff and Chris Brown. Twenty-one seconds into the third period, Orono scored, to again pull within one goal of the sagging Toros. Chris Brown restored the Toros' two goal lead midway through the 3rd period, notching an unassisted unassisted marker. Geoff Goode put the icing on the cake, scoring his second goal of the game with Chris Brown and Ryan Putnam picking up the assists to give the Toros the 5 - 2 win. I hope this lack of effort ended with this exhibition game, because the Toros will need at least 100 percent effort from everybody if they want to be successful in the Niagara Falls Tournament during the March break.
