WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES. ^ w LETTERS TO EDITOR March 10,1984 To The Editor Sir: "I have been named." One of my colleagues frequently states. A letter in your paper last week referred to me saying, "surely this information information was at her finger tips prior to the reassessment vote being taken." It appeared people were hungry for information information on property taxation. Partly at your suggestion, I spent about three days researching researching and condensing the matters that came before me on assessment and grants into some kind of an understandable understandable letter. A job really for a professional writer, but none seemed forthcoming, with the exception of Mr. Lettner! ! ! It is unfortunate that some saw this sincere effort as a spurious attempt to "blame someone" or climb on the bandwagon of the "downtrodden." "downtrodden." I doubt very much if such facts on reassessment were at the "finger tips" of 95 percent of municipal councillors councillors across the province or even the board members of the Association of Municipalities Municipalities of Ontario before they voted on such matters. Facts about the overlapping areas between Municipal, Regional and Provincial Grants are not usually explained to councillors. councillors. I was pleased to see it pointed pointed out in the same edition that during the original debate on reassessment, I was partly responsible for an amendment that says: "and that the assessment department produce produce an impact study for the Consideration of council." Reassessment was an item on a council agenda. Responding to the business of council is necessary while making sure impacts are submitted Before final approval is given. This study was submitted to council council on November 14, 1974. I moved "that the study be received for information." The motion carried. That means - "Thank you assessment assessment department, council will take no action to implement." Two weeks later this intent was manipulated into acceptance acceptance and implementation with four council members of seven apparently in agreement. agreement. May I take this opportunity of complimenting Donna Fairey on her explanation of the School Board Budget process. I look forward to a concluding article for 1984. Sincerely. Ann Cowman I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere appreciation to you and the people of our fine community, for the support shown during the recent display at the Bowmanville Mall. It is not often we get the chance to demonstrate our skills and knowledge to the public without them being in need of them at that particular time. The response from the merchants and the public was overwhelming. I am sure my colleagues, as well as myself, are pleased that the public may further realize that when an emergency arises, their Ambulance Service is more than capable of handling the situation. It is ironic that our display included a section on the available resources for a disaster situation and the day following our display, these services were utilized at a 70 car pile up on the 401. I am pleased to say that the situation was extremely well handled by our staff, and the staffs of surrounding Ambulance Services. I would like to thank the staff of the Bowmanville Mall for their support during our presentation, and especially Shoppers Drug Mart for housing our display material after hours. Without their continuous help, the entire display would have been most difficult, if not impossible, to put on. Sincerely, Glenn Legault EMCA Whitby - Bowmanville Ambulance Service To the editor: I would like you to know that in my opinion, the Bowmanville Bowmanville Statesman is a fine newspaper newspaper indeed.
