Kris Moore, a student at the Vincent Massey Public School, received a safety patroller award of merit this month during a Safety Patrol Jamboree held in Oshawa. Approximately 1200 Durham Region students attended the jamboree at the Civic Auditorium March 1. The event marked the 50th anniversary of safety patrols in Oshawa. Lieutenant Governor John Aird was on hand to present the awards to the patrollers, including Vincent Massey's Kris Moore. She is shown here with Constable Don Anderson of the Durham Regional Police and Laura Avery, the teacher at Vincent Massey Massey in charge of the Safety Patrol program. Kemptville College Royal Scheduled March 23,24 WE RE MORE THAN A NICE PLACE TO EAT Every Thursday is Family Steak Night ip, dash of fashion, and a whole lot of good old country flavour should turn the Kemptville College Royal into a "winning combination" March 23 and 24. In the two-day livestock showmanship competition, 130 students will be vying for top honours. Five classes of animals are involved. Accompanied by the music of Michael Jackson, another 50 students will parade 100 outfits ranging from casual spring wear to evening wear. Fashion shows will be staged twice a day. All outfits in the show have been created by the students. The Hon. Dennis Timbrell, Minister of Agriculture and Food, will officially open the Royal on Friday at 1:00 p.m. A petting zoo has been added to help make the Royal more of a family affair, with animals ranging from a calf to a llama. The bi-centennial oxen will also be on display. A baby sitting service, free of charge and manned by the students, will be set up in the gymnatorium. A mother of three, Kirk calls the job "fabulous" and "invigorating." Many Royal traditions will return including the food and farm exhibits and the home produce competition. The public can look forward to an expanded "herbs for cooking" show. All herbs have been grown in the College greenhouse. greenhouse.
