Coboure was history. ; D With two victories last week, the Flying Dutchman Major Bantam Toros have captured the Eastern Ontario Ontario "A" title for the third straight year by eliminating their rivals from Cobourg three games to zero. In the contest played in Cobourg on March 1st, John Romano and Chris Beck were the big guns for the Toros as they each had a hattrick while Chris Shmyr and Glen Campbell added' singles to trounce their opposition opposition 8-3. After Cobourg opened the scoring with only 41 seconds seconds played in the first John Romano got down to business and scored three times in a span of just over four minutes to give the Toros the lead. His first goal was assisted by Chris Shmyr and Mike Gallant, the second second was unassisted and the third again relayed from Shmyr. Chris Beck then scored his first of three with just over a minute remaining remaining in the periçd on passes from Bob McArthur and Brian Noble. Cobourg again drew first blood in the second but Chris Beck matched their tally 12 seconds later on assists assists by Brian Noble and Shawn Rekker. The teams traded one more each in the period, Cobourg first then 11 seconds later, Chris Shmyr retaliated from Mike Gallant to maintain a three goal edge. Chris Beck and Glen Campbell topped oil the win with a goal each in the third. Beck's was a nice shorthanded goal passed to him by Brian Noble and Beck and Noble figured in on Campbell's tally. Scott Webster played three steady periods of hockey and faced 25 shots while the Toros pumped 50 shots at the Cobourg net Back at Darlington for the third game, the spectators were kept on the edge of their seats enjoying a very exciting game. The Toros held a two goal edge till partway through the middle period. Chris Shmyr scored from John Romano and Jamie Lever in the first and then George Pithie added one in the second from Jamie Downing and Chris Beck to go up 2 - 0. Cobourg then scored to close the gap but Jamie Lever struck back when Mike Gallant won the faceoff and dropped the puck to the top ofthe faceoff circle and Lever moved in from his point position and drilled the puck into the net. Cobourg came back in the third and tied the score and overtime loomed large. With 30 seconds to go and the Toros on a powerplay they maintained control in Cobourg's end and Jamie Lever passed the puck from his point position across the ice to fellow defenseman Kelly Armstrong who took a quick snapshot and Cobourg was history. The team is now waiting for the winner of the Aurora - Orangeville series which was tied at two games apiece.
