Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gordon, Port Hope, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stapleton, Orono, were Friday callers at Mrs. Kathleen Kimball's. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cooper, Oshawa, were Saturday evening evening visitors. Mrs. Dae Storks and Amanda returned Saturday after spending a few days in Blind River with Miss Candy Storks. Last Thursday morning Mrs. Pauline Storks attended an executive meeting of the Ganaraska Conservation Authority, Port Hope. In the evening a public meeting with the task force was held in the Council Chambers of the Community Hall. Sympathy is extended to relatives and friends of the late Robert C. Crowther, brother of the late George Crowther, who passed away on Thursday, April 12, at North York General Hospital. Last Tuesday evening Newcastle Lionesses held an executive meeting at the home of Mrs. Lynn Lovekin. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Barry Norton entertained family and friends to a birthday birthday party in honour of one- year-old Julian. Last Wednesday Mrs. Rayé Friedlander and Mrs. Pauline Storks enjoyed a birthday dinner at Scott House, Toronto, in honour of Mr. Ian Barron. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Martin, Woodville, were Friday visitors visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crago. Callers during the week at the Sidney Lancaster's included included Rev. R. C. On Saturday evening, April 14, Mr. and Mrs. Buster Harris celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Legion Hall, Bowmanville. Their children, Tillie, Gerry and Brad were in attendance and grandchildren from British Columbia and Nova Scotia arrived for this golden occasion. Friends and relatives relatives from this area attended and guests from Washago, Toronto, Lakefield and Shar- bot Lake. Anglican Church News Members of St. George's Church held a Prayer Service in St. George's on Friday evening, April 13, in response to the call for fasting and prayer for peace in the world, from the leaders of the churches in Canada. Members of St. George's Church joined with members of St. Saviour's Church for a Sader Supper and Paschal Meal on Saturday evening in St. Saviour's Parish Hall. Palms were distributed to all at the services on Sunday in St. George's Church in commemoration of Palm Sunday. The choir sang the Anthem, Hosanna by Christian Gregor. On the 9th of January 1984, the Council of the Town of Newcastle passed the following following resolution: "Whereas through an environmental environmental assessment hearing process the Port Granby area was already determined to be unsuitable for a permanent low level radioactive waste disposal site; and "Whereas at this time there has not been a federally sponsored proper and thorough search for such a site in Canada; and "Whereas the establishment of such a site and the possible possible long term environmental environmental implications and concerns concerns are of a magnitude that warrants the accountability accountability of a body such as the Federal Government as opposed opposed to a private and or Crown Corporation: "Therefore be it resolved that the Federal Government Government of Canada veto Eldorado Eldorado Nuclear Limited's proposal for a permanent radioactive waste disposal site in the Port Granby area and the • same Federal Government proceed to actively develop plans for a permanent isolated location where low level radioactive wastes can safely be disposed disposed of."
