"There is not one piece of this development development which will cost neighbours, neighbours, the Town of Newcastle, or the Durham Region five cents," said Elmer Pollard during a meeting meeting with the general purpose and administration committee on Monday. Monday. He explained that he is asking to go ahead with four apartment buildings having a total of 510 units. The 63-acre development is located north of Nash Rd., off Regional Rd. 34. Lot levies for these buildings alone would give the town treasury $443,750. Mr. Pollard told council he is willing willing to defer a decision on what kind of housing would be built on land closest to the existing subdivision. But, he has asked that the town grant approval to the remainder of his plan. However, residents from the adjoining adjoining subdivision told the committee committee on Monday that thpy are still afraid the development will result in high-density dwellings too close to single-family homes. "There are too many buildings too close together," said Janet Hayman. She added that her backyard backyard would be 30 feet from a planned planned townhouse. Subdivision resident Bill Bickle said that a city-style development should be kept in the city and not in country suburbs. "It's not the development I'm objecting objecting to, it's the mass high-density," high-density," he said. Ray Shepherd told the committee that if townhouses were located behind behind some of the existing subdivision, subdivision, the view of the sunset would be completely blocked from six p.m. onward. He also expressed concern over the construction of a pond to control flooding of the creek. Such a pond would be dangerous to children, he said. After reviewing the presentations presentations made at Monday's meeting, Newcastle's elected officials decided decided that a public meeting to discuss discuss the future of the property should be held soon. A resolution introduced by Councillor Councillor Marie Hubbard asks that town planning staff proceed with a neighbourhood development plan for this area and schedule a public meeting in approximately two weeks. After the meeting has been held, Mr. Pollard's request for permission permission to rezone land will be referred to members of council for further discussion. Councillor Ann Cowman suggested during this week's meeting meeting that the portion of property closest to the subdivision ought to be re-zoned for single family homes and semi-detached units only. "The major public objection is to townhouses abutting single family homes," she said. CONSOLIDATING? Shared Office Space For Rent , Modern building, ground floor, air conditioned, 200 sq.
