One of the highlights of the exchange was a concert held at the B.H.S. auditorium on Thursday, May 3 and featuring concert bands and stage bands from Concert band from the Arthur Voaden Secondary Secondary School performs during last week's band exchange exchange concert featuring musicians from St. Thomas and from Bowmanville. For several weeks now, we've been giving you all the incentives to see this musical; the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, the costumes, the excellent direction, direction, and the fact that our proceeds will contribute to a football team at BHS. Already the Rotary Club and the residents residents of Marnwood Home have had a sneak preview of and V Time! the show and have responds with enthusiasm. The dates of our production are May 9 to 12 at 8:00 p.m. at the Bowmanville Bowmanville High School auditorium. There are still good seats available all nights. For your tickets please call the high school at 623-4416 or buy them at the box office. The Drama Club would like to thank some members of the community for their support. First, we thank the St. Mary Cement plant for sponsoring the tickets. Orono United Church News On Sunday, May 6, a large attendance at regular morning morning service to witness the sacrament baptism of Michelle Kathryn McKinley. She is the baby " daughter of Brian and Valerie McKinley (nee Partridge) 1 . The beautiful flowers were from the Memorial service held on Saturday, May 5, for the late Keith Tennant, and the large arrangement on standard from the Brandt wedding of Friday evening. Mr. Gordon Mills gavé the interesting story of our need of using a road map (the Bible) through life, and handed handed out highway road maps to all the children. Bill Tamblyn led in the scripture readings and the choir rendered "We Bless the God and Father." Happy Birthday to Gordon Hardy, May 6, and Dora McLaren, May 7th. Lois Brown welcomed welcomed everyone on behalf of Unit No. 4 and then showed a delightful film entitled "At 99". The subject, a very energetic energetic young lady, celebrating her 99th birthday, and playing the piano and singing for other senior citizens. Another hobby of the young lady was enjoying yoga, and her comments of "Oh, good to have the blood flowing", were enjoyed by all. With a real positive approach to living and good health, this lady lived to be 101 years old, and she lived in the Kingston area. Thelma Vagg led in closing prayer and then the two units separated to conduct their business period. The ladies of unit No. 3 are busy preparing for their "Fashion Show of Home Sewing." The ladies of Unit No. 3 served a delicious lunch to close a good evening of fun and fellowship. Twenty-four ladies of Unit No. 1 and Unit No. 2 met Wednesday, May 2, in the main hall for their joint meeting. Leader of Unit No. 1, Bertha White, welcomed everyone and read a poem. Special guest speaker, Mrs. Judy Pierce, Newcastle, had as her topic "Indonesia", with an excellent commentary and pictures. Added interest was provided by an interesting display of materials, etc. The housing is quite poor but pictures pictures of the fruit stands were very appetizing, particularly beautiful bananas. D. Barnett, was in charge of devotions, assisted by Val Watson and Edna Chapman. St. Saviours Church News We would like to thank all who supported us at our Salad Supper. We did very well. Baptisms are scheduled for Sunday, May 13th. Remember our Parish Outreach Walkathon is Sat., May 12. It starts at 9:00 a.m.. from St. George's Parish Hall, Newcastle, and ends there for lunch. Orono Choir Members of Orono United Church choir were Sunday afternoon guests at the special U.C.W. Anniversary service of Shiloh United Church. Mrs. Alice Sheffield, Simcoe Street United Church, Oshawa was guest speaker, and she brought an excellent topic "On Our Church." The members of Orono Choir provided three anthems for the service. A tasty lunch was served to the choir, following following the service. Mrs. Glenda Reid (nee Tennant), Surrey, B.C., has spent the past two weeks visiting visiting her family and relatives in the area. Carmen Tennant, B.C., arrived in Orono to attend the Memorial service for his brother, held on Saturday. Mr. arid Mrs. Howard Quantrill, Campbellcroft, were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Mercer, recently. Mr. .and Mrs. Howard Stapleton and family, Oshawa, Mrs. Mary Morris and John Robinson were all last Tuesday night dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton. Bowmanville Women's Institute Bowmanville Women's Institute met on May 3, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Church Hall. The meeting opened with the singing of O Canada, Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect repeated in unison. Mrs. Helen Millson, president president welcomed the members and guests. Twist, convenor of Citizenship, World Affairs and Resolutions was in charge of the program. Motto - "The world is now a neighbourhood - we must work to make it a brotherhood" was very ably given by Mrs. H. Millson. Mrs. Twist introduced our speaker, Mrs. Carol Reynolds, who is taking a course on Anthropology Anthropology - study of man and his environment. As part of her course, along with several more people, she had a working working assignment in Ecuador. Many interesting facts were given. The life span is short in the country. Each town has its own customs and dress. Music is a very important part of their life. She had various articles on display which were made by the people. The ease and manner of her speaking made for a most interesting and informative meeting. She was thanked by Mrs. Twist. A 50th wedding anniversary gift was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Denis Pickard. A get-well card was signed by those present for Mrs. J. Brine, incapacitated at home with a broken arm. Mrs. Millson closed the meeting by all singing God Save the Queen. Social half- hour followed.
