Egg Prices Gain Four Cents in July Prices paid to Canadian egg producers will move up four cents on each dozen of Grade A large eggs effective Monday, July 9, according to the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency (CEMA) The Agency says the increase is largely due to changes in pullet and feed prices, with interest rate hikes and a levy adjustment minor influencing factors. Pullet prices were up almost two cents due to a decrease in the salvage value of spent hens and an increase in the price of young layers. Feed prices, which rose nearly a cent, generally increase during summer months as the crop year draws to a close. The Agency says a recent half cent addition on the provincial administration levy elevated July's egg price marginally. It was the first increase imposed to cover provincial administration costs since the 1970's. Shortfall adjustments will drop the increase to three cents for Quebec farmers. Farmers in all other provinces will see the full four-cent increase. CEMA establishes the price farmers receive for Grade A large eggs at the beginning, of each month using a government monitored cost of production formula. The price consumers pay for eggs is independently determined by wholesalers and retailers. Bonus Speci als Monday, July 16th to Saturday, July 21st CAPRI Major Changes Affect Truancy Regulations Habitual truancy will no longer be an offence under the Education Act for a pupil, but refusal to obey a court order to attend school;mpy be dealt with as contdftpt of court. Parents may continue to be prosecuted for failing to cause their child to attend school. The change was included in amendments to the Education Act introduced by Education Minister Dr. Bette Stephen- , son, which follows the passing of the federal Young Offenders Offenders Act and the repeal of the Juvenile Delinquents Act. Under the new amendments a school board may initiate a school attendance proceeding in the family division of a provincial court. A breach of a court order from such pro ceedings could lead to the offender, the child or the parent, being charged with contempt of court. Previously, parents who refused refused to send their child to school could be fined up to $100 and the child who refused to attend school could be declared declared a juvenile delinquent under the Juvenile Delinquents Act. Dr. Stephenson said that it will be up to the personnel of a school board to decide whether to prosecute a parent or to initiate a school attendance attendance proceeding against the child. Under the amendment family counselling and treatment treatment may be recommended to help remove the cause of the truancy. - wep's'v-vir. «•••>• tr ' * r * ? ww, 'r " " Home of the Fuel Economy Car MIDWAY MOTORS 1300 Dundas St. E„ Whitby 668-6828 Whif Buy detail?
