At the morning service of the United Church, Glenn Larmer sang two solos. Rev. D.Davis preached a very appropriate sermon on different churches pointing out the opportunity we have during summer of attending services ot other denominations or at other places. There will be no church at the United until August 19 pattern. Goodyear utilized the concept of designing a tread to roll in a predetermined direction for its gatorback rain tires for Formula One cars. Aimed at improved wet traction, the directional pattern also improves highspeed highspeed cornering because, regardless of the direction of turn, the shoulder grooves work with the car. Aesthetically, the pattern in the shoulders was designed to mate perfectly with the blading in the unique directional wheels. "New construction technology, new materials and new production techniques were developed for this all new concept," Albin added. The water-channeling ability of Goodyear's new unidirectional Eagle VR50 high-performance radial is apparent in this glass plate photo comparison. The photo on the left (with the larger black contact area) is the Eagle VR50 being driven through water at 20 mph. The photo on the right is the same tire at 60 mph. Even at the higher speed, the contact area is uniform and water is being channeled through the tire as well as out the sides. The racing tires you see at major motor racing events this summer have an offspring that leads the way in performance tire technology for use on the highway. The Goodyear Eagle VR50 high-performance radial is a direct descendant of Goodyear's 'gatorback' rain tire for Formula One racing. "This tire combines more desirable features into one product than probably has ever been capsulated into a tire," said Dan Albin, Goodyear Canada's passenger tire marketing manager. "It is the first 16-inch Steel-belted high performance radial to be made in North America; the first original equipment V- rated North American tire and the first 50-series radial from Goodyear." The VR-50 tire was first made available on the 1984 Corvette and is now standard equipment on Ford's SVO Mustang. Using the European speed rating system, the new gatorback Eagle has a "V" rating that identifies it as having a speed rating in excess of 200 kph. Because the tire will find its way onto the unlimited speed German autobahns and the when vacation time is over.
