I I Exchange Student Leaves for Australia Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, July 18,1984 13 Durham-Northumberland MP Allan Lawrence presents the Bowmanville Rotary Club's exchange exchange student with a Canadian flag which she will be taking with her to Australia. The presentation presentation took place last Thursday, July 12, at a meeting meeting of the Bowmanville Rotary Club. Durham East MPP Sam Cureatz was also on hand to present the exchange student with an Ontario flag and other mementoes of the province. Anne-Marie Bedford, this year's Rotary exchange student, will be leaving leaving for a year in Australia next month. Old Books To be Sold At Library The Bowmanville Library will be offering bargains for bookworms this Thursday, Friday and Saturday during its annual book sale. The event features several several thousand hard-cover books as well as paperbacks and magazines. • Doug Abbott, branch head for Bowmanville, said last week that the event will be part of the Sidewalk Sale underway in downtown Bowmanville July 19 to 21. All books represent items which have been weeded out of the library's regular collection. Both adult and children's titles will available. available. "We generally get a good response each year," said Mr. Abbott. The sale will be held at the Bowmanville Library Auditorium commencing at 10 a.m. Novelist Speaks to Lions Club Novelist Charles Ewert was the guest speaker at last week's meeting of the Bowmanville Lions Club. Mr. Ewert's fourth book will be published this August and he is already working on a fifth. The Newcastle author writes from a historical viewpoint, viewpoint, often using Canadian history as a theme. "The novelist has an opportunity to remind people of the grand sweep of history," Mr. Ewert said. Hockey Association Holds Dance ELIZABETHVILLE Last Thursday the seniors had their weekly meeting at Campbellcroft. Mrs. Robt. Westheuser went to Toronto for her father, Henry Thickson, and brought his home. At dinner time, Peter Westheuser brought the girls over and all had dinner. Robert was working. Saturday evening the Hockey Association had their barbeque and dance at Bewdley. They had a large crowd and reported a successful evening that will help finance next year's hockey clubs. Church services were held at Mr. and Mrs. M. Currelly's, Welcome, on Sunday with Rev. Rex Norman as speaker. As I was unable to attend I expect the Wesleyville correspondent will report. Sunday afternoon about 20 Women's Institute members and friends gathered at the Lange Pioneer Village to celebrate Bicentennial year celebrations. Miss Elizabeth Ballans spoke to the group on her work as a nurse in Frobusher Bay. After, the group toured the village. Music was supplied at the church also. Afternoon tea was served by the president and other members. Mr. and Mrs. W. Muldrew, Mr. and Mrs. Whitbred, Oshawa have been down to Sunnyside a couple of times recently. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Mercer had Angie and Erin Prévost, their grandchildren, for the weekend while their parents were at Westport where their cottage was completely ruined by a storm recently. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mercer and Bryan called on Mr. and Mrs. W. Muldrew, Oshawa, recently. Mr. and Mrs. H. Quantrill had their grandchildren, Lisa, Paul Quantrill and Kevin Currier at different times recently. They helped with the hay. The farm that Ken Trew lived on, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan has been purchased by Mr. Gary Langstaff from Clarke. The strawberry patch at the Dell, Campbellcroft, is still a busy spot. Last week Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock had Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Robinson, Andrew and Anna from Newfoundland during the week. On Sunday they had Glen Ball; Grant Ball; and friend Lorna from Uxbridge. Steven was home from Guelph, Dr. and Mrs. Hunter from Hudson, John Hunter and Karin Marwood from Peterborough. In the evening Mrs. Ken Trew, Mrs. M. Walker and Mrs. M. Trew were at Peacock's. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew arrived home from the west on Saturday. They had spent about a month in the west visiting Garry and Helen Fowler also helping them pack up and'they, are coming home ariÿdâÿT' Gàrry has a van and a school bus which he bought and fixed to move home with. Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer were in Toronto on Sunday and saw the ships in Toronto Harbor. There was a big crowd but they enjoyed their trip. They took the GO train.
