Real Estates Sales Booming s. m m : « The dramatic sales pace of houses listed on the MLS System of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board continued in Bowmanville in the month of June. To date the MLS System 200 properties in the Newcastle area, 41 of those sales occurred in June. In contrast, there has been a noteable drop in the number of listings active on the MLS System in the area. In May 194 properties were listed MLS, while the number dropped to 165 in June. "The market," says Anita M. Witty, President of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board, "Has taken an interesting turn." National trends such as the rise in interest rates and the decline in the Canadian dollar are having an effect. Comparing the Newcastle figures to the overall market area of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board, the smaller area reflects the general trend. Sales for the year are up 6.7%, in the Oshawa Board and dollar volume on sales is up 7.3%. Total dollar volume of the year now stands at $129,876,206.00. This reflects an increase of more than 8 million dollars. On the other hand the supply of houses for sale within the jurisdictional area of the Oshawa Board has declined this year by 5.5%. At this time last year 223 more houses had been listed MLS. "Now more than ever before," says Mrs. Witty, "The public needs the services of professional and skilled real estate practitioners." Statistics indicate that there are interested buyers in ' the area. However, pricing is the prime consideration of everyone. It is a fact that well priced houses will sell, and overpriced listings will not. Summing up her thoughts, Mrs. Witty says, "This is a. market for experts. Care in all things should be the watchword." watchword." The Oshawa and District Real Estate Board presently has a membership of 788.
