Kendal Extends Record to Ten Wins and Eight Losses Approximately 43 cyclists from Camp De L'Amitié, near Ottawa, spent Saturday evening in Bowmanville during a trek from their camp to Toronto. Toronto. The group's mobile kitchen and supply truck was first to arrive on the scene. Here, Rev. John Peters welcomes Lionel DesLauriers (left) and his helper, Philip LaCroix, to the Trinity United Church. The group slept in the church hall overnight, before heading westward on the final leg of their journey Sunday morning. The cyclists had originally planned to stop in Oshawa Saturday Saturday evening, but when accommodation was not available at last minute, they found a place to stay at Trinity. Pee Wees Having a Good Season Orioles Defect Oshewe 7-1 Lest Week On Wednesday, July 18, the Cowan Pontiac - L & L" Tool Orioles hosted the Oshawa Legionaires and won the game 7-1. John Mutton started on the mound and pitched one of the best games he has had this year allowing Oshawa only 3 hits and striking out 2. In the sixth inning he ran into control problems and he was relieved by Chris Michelson who didn't allow any hits and had 3 strikeouts in the 2 innings he pitched. Ed Bird had a home run for the Orioles, Ken Farrow a triple, Geoff Green, George Kennett, Steve Coverly, Tony Rupa and John Mutton singles. On Saturday the Orioles hosted Belleville and were beaten 9-5. Chris Michelson was the starting pitcher for the Orioles and Belleville pounded out 14 hits off him. He had 6 strike outs. Dan Ritchie relieved in the 7th inning and shut Belleville out the rest of the way. George Kennett and John Mutton had 2 hits each. Chris Michelson and Wayne Mutton singles. The Port of Newcastle Mosquitos ended their regular season with a 2-2 tie against, Orono on July 16. Six of our Kraco Contracting Atoms were called up for this game and they all played very well. Jason Carroll and David Sheridan scored for the Port of Newcastle, Trevor Davies and Gord Mutton replied for Orono. The Town Sports Mosquitos meanwhile defeated Hampton at Hampton, by a score of 7-4 despite the handicap of playing 1 man short for the entire game, Chris Hull scored 5 goals and Ricky Burns and Gord Sikma the others. At this point I would like to remind players and parents alike that it is only common courtesy to notify the coaches when a player can't be at a game, If the coach is informed in time he/she can at least call up some younger boys to fill in. Not to call isn't fair to the team. July 17th saw the Virtue Fuel Pee Wees score a 5-3 win over Bowmanville United, as the Virtue boys came lip with a very gutsy performance. Newcastle goal scorers were Douglas Kettles, Casey Deplau, Jeff Koopmans and" Mike Tail (2x). Paul Smethurst and Mark Tripp (2x) scored for United. July 18th, the Kraco Atoms extended their unbeaten, untied record with a (!•() win over Wolves, Chris MeSweeney tallied 3 times, Steven Miller, Paul llamlstra and Ben Vandenheyden each. David Budel and Dennis Ricard shared the shut-out, the latter having to make a number of good saves. One more win and these boys will have completed an unbeaten regular season. July 19th the K of C Squirts defeated Hampton 2-1 in By Ab Mavin Since the Brock tournament on July 15th, our club members have been very busy going out of town to District 14 tournaments. On Tuesday, July 17th, Rene Bathgate, Vi Coole and Hilda Simnick travelled to Whitby to participate in a ladies tournament. The tournament was curtailed because of rain and our ladies finished out of the money but had a very enjoyable day. Thursday, July 19th saw three Bowmanville teams bowling in Oshawa in a turnabout tournament; so called because the two ladies were skip and vice-skip while the lone man had to lead. Hilda Simnick - skip, Mary Thompson, vice-skip and Farewell Blackburn lost all three games but put up a good showing, considering that Hilda had not skipped before this season and "Blackie" has had limited experience in Hampton to give them a record of 4 wins, 2 ties .and 2 losses with 1 game remaining. Goal scorers were not identified so that we are unable to report them here. Before going on to the upcoming games I want to say Bon Voyage to Glen Kilsh. Glen will be playing his last game for our club on July 24th and we will miss him for he always game 110 per cent at every position on the field. Good luck Glen! There isn't much to report for upcoming action, only that the Atoms will play their final regular season game on July 25 against Wolves, in Newcastle, And the Squirts finish their season the following night, also Newcastle, against Nichols. The playoffs start on August 20th but J'll have more to say about that next time. tournament play. The team of Vi Coole-skip, Mabel Mavin vice-skip and Ab Mavin lead fared a little better, losing their first game 20 to 10 winning the second game 15 to 13 and losing the last game on the last end. The outstanding performance of the day belonged to the Bathgate clan. Rena Bathgage - skip, Shirley Williams (daughter) vice-skip and Peter Bathgate lead won all three games and with a bit of luck could have won the tournament. However their score of 48 was good enough for 3rd place and a good share of the prize money. A truly great family effort. On Saturday, July 21st Bryan Hughes - skip, Mabel Mavin vice-skip and Ab Mavin lead competed in a tournament at Whitby. They got off to a good start with a 19-4 win over A. Sweet of Oshawa, but lost out to G. Bates of Oshawa in the second game. Tied after regulation 14 ends they lost the game in the extra end. They also lost to Cartwright of Whitby 13-7 but with a score of 40 picked up the prize for high score for 1 win. Novice League Bow. Panthers Newcastle A Bow. Tigers Newcastle B Bow. Eagles Bow.
