Using nearby neighbor neighbor facilities and of her family, campers were instructed in swimming, tennis, horseback riding and activity programs. This year's enrolment was 21 with a waiting list. Not a bad business enterprise for a 17 year old. SWIM MEET -- Swimmers from Camp Samac, Napanee, Campbellford, Port Hope, Cobourg and Bowmanville competed in the Bowmanville annual swim meet held on Sunday. TOURNAMENT -- The Bowmanville Cleaners Hockey Club will be participating in the 5th annual Puck "n" Ball Tourney in'Ernestown this weekend. Bowmanville's swim team (above) won the area meet held at the Newcastle Fitness Centre last Sunday afternoon. Competitors aged eight to 19 years old participated in the meet which involved six recreational swim teams in the Durham Region. Region. Swimmers from the Bowmanville Fitness Centre placed first with a grand score of 567.5, Port Hope swimmers ran a close second with 491.5 points, Cobourg came in third with a score of 210, the Camp Samac team placed fourth with 151, Campbellford was fourth with a score of 131, and the Whitby team finished in sixth place with 33 points. This year over 50 children participated in nine weeks of fun learning about baseball and making new friends and aquaintances. Every week each of the four teams participated in about 45 minutes of instruction and warm-ups plus a 45 minute game. The Kinsmen Club would like to thank all the kids for participating and also the members and parents who helped out. We would also like to thank International Parts Limited for donating the hats and Bowmanville Canadian Tire for donating the baseballs. baseballs. July 25 - Atoms journeyed to Orono where the Hampton boys dominated the game, winning by a score of 4 - 1. Hampton Atoms have finished in third place in their division. July 26 - Squirts hosted Tyrone at Hampton pond. Hampton controlled the play most of the game. Final score 3 - 1 for Hampton. Dennison's offensive effort was led by Sarah Couch, Susan McCullough, Jessica Knoop and Stephanie Noble pressing the ball down the centre of the field. Christina Thrasher, Alyssa McLennan, 'Tracy Michaud and Allison Morris all played strong games on the wings. Our half backs led by Amy Degroot, Andrea Slocombe and Katie Woodcock did an admirable job of clearing the ball from the midfield and up to the forwards. They broke up several dangerous looking rushes. Myka Piekenbrock deserves special mention for the fine job she did on defense with her hard kicks clearing the ball on several occasions. Cheryl Ann Cole also deserves mention as she again turned in a strong defensive and offensive effort. Stephanie Sleep played a strong game in goal for Dennisons and it was misfortune misfortune that allowed Pickering's goal. Although they came up on the short end of the score our girls played a strong game with their usual good sportsmanship. sportsmanship.
