Thelma Wright with the assistance of her husband Lloyd and Jean Ferguson has made and painted 15 signs to mark hisjtoric sites in Cartwright. Cartwright. Six more permanent permanent signs are to be erected soon. Watch for them - they are all green and white! The Committee plans to have Bill Lishman repair the Hall monument with new lead letters. (In case you don't know where it is, look behind the cenotaph in the little park in Blackstock). October 12 and 13 will be exciting. Bethany Schryburt is now planning planning to put on her historical play "Yarns to Spin" on Friday evening along with a sing-a-long, school choir and other musical selections selections and slide show. Ross Stevenson is to be present on Saturday to present an historic plaque and to plant some Centennial White Pine trees. Aileen Van Camp, Merrill Van Camp and Harvey Graham plan some fun contests ànd competitions, Bill Ferguson will have his family displays of photos and information on all the original settlers settlers in the Town Hall. Lawrence McLaughlin has arranged for steam tractors, saw and threshing exhibits, as well as other historic machinery. Bruce Mountjoy is arranging an exciting display of his collection. Lawrence Malcolm is arranging for items from the Scugog Shores Museum. The Barbecue and Dance plans are well underway. During the week of October 8-13, the Public School is planning planning a number of learning learning experiences with use of the old curriculum for one day, open house Thursday evening and displays of pioneer items. The Ontario Trail riders Association are passing through this area on August 17th, stopping at Burketon at non and camping about 4:00 p.m. in the vicinity of the Purple Woods Conservation Area. They would like descendants descendants of the original settlers settlers to sign their scroll, other people to walk or ride along with them on horses, people to present histories, j and some to provide a quilt block with name of first settlers. Watch for them. The weather was beautiful on Saturday for the lovely lawn wedding wedding of Kelly McLaughlin and Terry Gatchell. During the spell of poor weather that this area has had, it was just a perfect day for the wedding held on the spacious lawn at the home of the bride's parents, Harold and Eileen McLaughlin. The wedding reception and dance afterward was held at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. Best wishes go to Kelly and Terry. Congratulations from the community go to Lenny Horton and Wendy Wendy Speck who were married during a lovely wedding on Saturday in St. 'Thomas Anglican Church, Bracebridge. The reception and dance were held in the Milford Bay Hall. Lenny and Wendy will be living in the groom's home near Bracebridge. His brothers, Bob and Brian were in the wedding party as ushers. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs, Tom Horton were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Morris, St. Williams, Jean and Ralph Kronister, Toronto who were here to attend the wedding on Saturday. On Sunday Laurie Bailey became the bride of Eric Zeidman in a - service followed by the reception and dance at Beth Radom Congregation at Dowri- sview. Mr. and Mrs. Harry McLaughlin, Nestleton, and Mr. and Mrs. George Wolfe, Blackstock were among several relatives at a delightful dinner hosted by Mr. Ray Hoskin, Bowmanville, in the Motor City Banquet Hall, Oshawa on August 7th. Mr. ar.d Mrs. Charlie Primmer of Hamilton spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge. At Lieu Villa Farms on Saturday, Glenn and Craig Larmer held a successful open house for their new "naturally ventilated" hog finishing barn. Almost 200 interested visitors toured through the facilities. Many local friends and neighbours visited; with others coming from as far away as St. Catherines, Cornwell and Owen Sound, A Bible Vacation School will be held by Peggy Michell at 17 Scugog St. N. from 10-11 a.m,. this week, Aug. 13- 17 for children 5-10 years of age. All children are welcome. On Friday afternoon Ken Sweetman and Brian Chase prepared the fairgrounds for the All Star baseball games this weekend. It took a lot of work by these volunteers.
