New Play Starting at Kawartha Summer Theatre The happy-go-lucky connoisseur of junk, Opal Kronkie is back to the Kawartha Summer Theatre stage this summer for a two week run. Starring Barbara Hamilton, "Opal's Husband", which runs August 14th to the 25th, is a sequel to last year's production, "Everybody Loves Opal" which received rave reviews and standing ovations. Barbara Hamilton comes to the Academy Theatre stage in Lindsay following an appearance in "The Merry Widow" at the National Arts Centre. This spring she starred in "The Supporting Cast" at the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theatre in Florida. The "gen-you-wine" Opal, who can always find an "honest word to. hide the naked truth" finds herself married to an "oversexed" 90- year-old rascal. Always doing good deeds for her 'Trends", Opal tries to get her best friend Rosie (Marilyn Boyle) in a happy state of mind by answering a newspaper ad, from Mr. Handsome who is looking for a wife, in Rosie's name. When Captain Mooney (Desmond Ellis), alias Mr. Handsome, arrives on the scene he is no sight for sore eyes and Rosie soon discovers there's no tomorrow over the rainbow. A runaway from the Bunny Hut, the Captain convinces Opal to marry him so his life insurance won't go to his money-hungry daughter. A new face at the Kawartha Summer Theatre, Desmond Ellis has performed at the Old Vic in London, the Odeon in Paris, and the Abbey in Dublin. On the screen, Mr. Ellis acted in the film, "The Black Stallion". Marilyn Boyle made her first appearance in Lindsay in 1976 in "See How They Run" and last season appeared in "Murder Game". As Velma, Captain Mooney's daughter (Jennifer Allyson), and her husband Otis Lemon (John Lefebvre) work to make Opal think she is losing her mind, and therefore is not able to inherit the Captain's fortune, the audience discovers that Opal may be a "moronic crone", but she is no fool. A talented and versatile actress, Jennifer Allyson has appeared in many soap operas - General Hospital, Edge of Night and Another World and recently appeared in the musical, "Chicago" in New York. Last season, John Lefebvre played Bradford in the first successful Opal production and also starred in the 1983 stagings of "Mass Appeal" and "Murder Game". "Opal's Husband" filled with laughter and fun, is directed by Bonnie Campbell who directed its namesake in 1983. Bonnie Campbell has directed KST productions of "Clutterbuck", "Murder Game" and "Once More, One More Time".
