There have been so many games that I find it almost impossible to keep up. However we'll give it a shot; any that we miss this time we'll try to pick up in two weeks. (I have to spend a week at University so no column next week.) The Newcastle Colt's K of C Squirts started it all on August 14, but unfortunately on a losing note as they absorbed a G - 1 defeat from Rice Construction. Construction. Michael Rickard scored Newcastle's lone goal. The Kraco Contracting Atoms are continuing their winning ways. On August 20th, they defeated Marketplan 4 -1 thanks to goals by Chris McSweeney (2x), Peter Van- derheyden and Dale Foster. Jason Terry replied for Marketplan. Marketplan. On August 22nd Solina was defeated 6 - 0 as Todd Jones scored three, Todd Jones scored three, Chris McSweeney two, and George Glassbergen one. Dennis Ricard and David Budel earned the shut-out. The Port of Newcastle Mosquitos Mosquitos also posted two wins, defeating Orono I by a 4 - 0 score on Aug. 20, and downing Kinsmen 2 - l on Aug. 22. Jason Carroll (2x), John Rogerson (one), and Chris Potter (one) scored in the Orono game with Tim Holland turning in a strong effort in goal, assisted by Jason Derrick Derrick after Tim was hurt in a collision. Tim recovered quickly, however, as he scored one of the two goals against Kinsmen, and David Sheridan scored the other. Town Sports Mosquitos defeated Mary Browns 4 - 2 on Aug. 20 in a double overtime contest that was decided by two overtime goals from Chris Hull. Brian Buma and Bradley Thompson scored the other goals. Gord Sikma, T. Gibson and Wybenga all played strong games on defense; On Aug. 22 the Town Sports boys battled to a 3 - 3 tie at Tyrone and another game had to be played on Aug. 23. The 24 hour delay seemed to have revived the Newcastle boys as they swamped Tyrone 4-0 in a shortened game. Chris Hull scored 2x while Tyler Gibson and Brian Buma contributed singles. This victory sets the stage for an all-Newcastle game on Monday, Aug. 27 as the Town Sports squad takes on the Port of Newcastle boys. That should be a real barnburner! barnburner! From the Colts organization's view this is a no-loss situation because one of the Newcastle teams advances advances directly to the final, while the other could still make it via the consolation side! The Virtue Fuel Pee Wees absorbed a 4 -1 drubbing from a co-champion Tyrone on August 21 and now will have to try to reach the finals through the consolation events. Jeff Koopmans was the lone scorer for Newcastle. The K of C Squirts played their second game on August 23 and it was a 3 - l victory over Hampton, thereby keeping keeping alive their playoff hopes while Hampton was eliminated. eliminated. Scoring for Newcastle were Tyler Sokoljuk, Shawn Stephenson and Michael Rickard. Adam Connaghan protected the goal despite suffering from the aftereffects aftereffects of an ear infection. Quite a gutsy performance, that. The results to date are: Squirts Aug. 14: Roy Nichols - Hampton, 3-1; Newcastle - Rice Construction, 1 - G.
