On Saturday, Mrs. Gladys Wood was most pleasantly surprised when all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren arrived with a supper to celebrate her eightieth birthday. Congratulations Mrs. Wood! Mr. and Mrs. John Scott enjoyed a Sunday barbecue at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Davey, Kendal. Saturday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Scott were Mr. and Mrs. Rob Scott and children, Little Britain. A good time for Norma to attend to some leisurely shopping. On Sunday, the Blackburn families (Wilbur and Eileen, close by, Carol of Oshawa, Dale and Kyle, Maple Grove, and Wayne and Joan and children Susan and Jeremy of Orono) were supper guests with Doug and Norma Blackburn Blackburn and Wendy. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Tompkins of Lakeville N.B. who have been staying with their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kennedy, Nick and Brandee for several days left Wednesday to return home. Children, (Lois and Diane Fitzjohn), Mrs. Sandra Fallow of Oshawa spent several days with thé C. Kennedy's while their mother had to go to New Brunswick to attend the funeral of her father. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Potts were guests at the party at the Community Centre Saturday evening for Bert Ashton. Mr. Bill Potts, Kincardine, visited with his parents Sunday and Mrs. Kim Potts who has been staying with her in-laws returned home with him Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Topple of Bowmanville were supper guests with their aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Millson on Friday. Little Miss Jennie Millson of Bowmanville was a Saturday and overnight visitor with Adam Millson. Our Community was shocked shocked to hear of the passing of Orville Ashton, a life long resident of Enniskillen until the last few years. We extend our sympathy to his wife Margaret, daughter Lois and family and son Charles and his family and his brother Harold and sisters. Several from Haydon paid their respects to the late Mr. 0. Ashton on Thursday at Ebenezer Church. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith, Oshawa were' Friday supper guests with Art and June Trewin. On Saturday, June Trewin, Gladys and Kim Potts were present at the United Way Yard Sale that was held at the Bowmanville High School and then hopped from one garage sale to another, picking up bargains and enjoying the morning. Mrs. Sylvia Laverty was present at a Cosmetic Party at Penny Love's, Oshawa on Wednesday evening. On Sunday, the Laverty's hop scotched from one yard sale to another from Oshawa to Ajax and had coffee with Mike's mother, Mrs. Jim Laverty in the afternoon. On Saturday evening relatives relatives on the Bradley side and Ashton clan gathered at Haydon Community Centre starting with a pot luck supper. Several close friends from Toronto and friends of the village along with the immediate family of Bert and Freda Ashton - Brad and family of down south, Ed and family of Woodbridge, and Lee and husband and family of London were present at the birthday party for Bert. Following supper several games including Bingo, were enjoyed and Mr. and Mrs. John Ross (nee Vi Bradley) showed their pictures of their world wide trip which were thoroughly enjoyed. Congratulations Bert. I've been told that the climb to seventy takes forever, but once you're at the top of the hill, the other side is shorter, steeper down and slippery. Tyrone United Church Women About thirty United Church Women gathered in the C. E. Wing for the first meeting of the new season in the form of a pot-luck supper. President Jane Woodley led in the singing singing of Grace, and following the meal, conducted the meeting while everyone remained in the unbroken network of the community meal. Jane warmly warmly welcomed everyone and thanked the committee in charge. Ann Pleasance and Carol Southwell presented a thoughtful Devotional. A reading, reading, "Why I Married a Farmer" was given by Ann.
