Our sincere congratulations to our many friends in the Ballyduff area, who last weekend hosted a large crowd to their dedication services for their newly renovated church and celebrating their 131st anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Cornish, Dayton, Ohio are currently visiting Mr. and Mrs. James Lowery, Kirby, and their many relatives and friends in this area. A very large crowd of friends, neighbors and relatives relatives attended the 50th golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dean. The happy event was held Saturday Saturday afternoon in the Orono I.O.O.F. hall. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kimmett, Lindsay, Mrs. Dorothy Bailey and Mrs. Eileen Billings attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Shields at the Inn on the Park, Don Mills on Sunday afternoon. Mrs] Shields was the former Marion Rickaby. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Aiken, Pontypool were Sunday evening evening dinner guests of the 0. Challices', the occasion being Nettie's birthday. Mr. Grant Curtis and Miss Laurie Benedict, Benedict, both from Oshawa were also recent visitors. Mrs. Bill McNaul, Oshawa, had last Wednesday luncheon with Mrs. E: Billings and Mrs. Dorothy Bailey. St. Saviours Church News Many visitors from St. George's, ;/ Newcastle and surrounding areas attended the very special Harvest Thanksgiving service in St. Saviours on Sunday morning. The visit of Archbishop Garnsworthy and his wife to our church was truly noteworthy/ noteworthy/ and we think it is wonderful during such a busy time, /with the Dioceasen Synod, distinguished visitors, the visit of /the Queen and the many fall events of the diocese and community. Thank you for coming.. We are most grateful for all the harvest produce brought to make our church so beautiful, for all our visitors to j see. It is truly inspiring and thank you to those who 'placed the many things in such beautiful array. Orono United Church News A large crowd was in attendance attendance on Sunday, Sept. 23 to welcome Rev. Fred Milnes and family to our church. The lovely flowers were in memory of the late Howard Bellamy and placed by his wife Bessie and family. A large Sunday school went downstairs prior to the church service. We still need a nursery nursery teacher (three year olds) to team teach with Jennifer Henderson. Also required Superintendents to co-ordinate co-ordinate activities and Sunday school. Milnes brought a challenging message of his journey into Christian leadership leadership and stated our foremost requirement as Christians is to "know Christ and to make Him known." We welcomed many new friends to this service and especially welcome the little ones. Rev. and Mrs. Milnes (Marion) are leading the Hi C group this year and welcome all high school age young people. A delicious dinner of pork chops, escalloped potatoes, carrots, green beans, apple sauce and apple juice was enjoyed by all present. As usual a very large, pretty birthday cake and ice-cream topped off the dinner. Happy birthday was sung to all celebrating celebrating this month. Meeting The executive of Orono U.C.W. met Monday afternoon in the Friendship Room. The president Donna Scott welcomed welcomed the ladies and read a poem. Mrs. Stella Carson read out a very interesting letter from The Roan Elfords, our adopted missionary family in the Northern Canadian regions. Sharon read a poem called "The Road to Yesterday." Memories shared were of Christmas activities, family get-togethers, skalding cream to have with pies, a knitted dress with brass buttons. Some ladies brought articles, curling tongs used by a grandmother; grandmother; covered cream jug; handpainted dish presented by a well remembered Sunday school teacher; a tapestry; a pewter jug and an old family album with pictures of some people whose names are no longer remembered. Mrs. Jean Dutton gave us some ideas of what are now collectibles and told how there are trends in antiques. Everybody Everybody was very interested and the time went too quickly. Tea and coffee was served along with delicious heated buns (homemade) of salmon, egg and meat fillers. Bernice Milligan thanked Jean for being such a generous generous hostess.
