Mrs. Thelma Gilbank attended attended the recent Women's Institute Institute Convention, held in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto as a delegate ,for Providence - Shaws W.I. Many from Orono area attended the delicious roast beef dinner, served at Ponty- pool Community Centre, by the ladies of that community. Miss Jessica Mostert, Guelph University, spent the weekend with parents, Cor and Carol Mostert, Orono North. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Taylor, Scarborough, were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Taylor. Mr. John Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Stapleton, were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Stapleton and family, Osliawa. Miss Kim Sherwin, Centennial Centennial College, Scarborough, and Mr. Walter Sherwin, Queen's University, Kingston, spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Sherwin. St. Saviour's Homecoming Service (1884-1984) The special Sunday service (Sunday, Nov. 4), opened with prelude by former organist Roger Proctor, and the music for the service by organist Nancy Tamblyn. Miss Dyana Layng, curator for Clarke Museum gave the children's story. The welcome was given by Mr. Charles Gray, convenor of the anniversary committee and a special presentation to Mrs. Mary Morris, who is our most senior member of the congregation. Sincere greetings greetings to her. The sermon was given by Ven. Frederick G. Ongley, M.A. Archdeacon Emeritus. Following the church ser vice, the congregation, choir and clergy moved to the plaque location to be unveiled. Introduction by Mr. Raymond Swan and the dedication by Ven. F. G. Ongley, with the unveiling by Patricia and Mark Breen. Patricia and Mark are the children of Mrs. Peggy Breen and the late John Breen, for whom the new parish hall has been named, "The John Breen Hall." The flowers on the altar were given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Gertrude Sawyer, by the Sawyer family. Thank you to Mrs. Gloria Gray for the special music and to all who have worked so hard to make this a most memorable memorable occasion. One copy of the history of St. Saviour's Church will be given to each family. United Church Unit Reports The ladies of Unit No. 1 met Wednesday, Nov. 7 in the main hall of the church, with a smaller than usual attendance. attendance. Unit No. 2 met at the home of Mrs. Leila Werry, with 12 ladies in attendance. Eileen Billings read an article on "Remembrance" and the devotions on "Love" were in charge of Mrs. Annie McNally and Mrs. Velma Armstrong's group. The mission study on "Korea" was given by E. Billings. A delicious lunch closed the meeting. A very large attendance of around thirty ladies of units three and four joined forces on Tuesday evening, Nov. 6, to enjoy an evening entitled "Bicentennial." The ladies of unit No. 4 were invited guests of unit 3. The evening had been arranged by Ruth Allin, Glad Gamby and Elaine Elson of Unit No. 3. Beautiful old cups and saucers, plates, sleigh-bells (over 100 years old), fine old lace hankies, crochet hooks, etc., each owner gave the history behind each item and of course all were displayed to view later. A hymn sing-song was much enjoyed and the devotional was taken from Peter Marshall's Marshall's book. Each unit separated to conduct their own business and a tasty lunch of old-time cookies, eg. ginger snaps, hermits, oatmeal cookies etc. was much enjoyed, to close an enjoyable evening of fellowship together. together. The Leskard Unit No. 5 met in the church hall on Wednesday evening, Nov. 7 with a goodly attendance and a surprise guest, their president, president, Mrs. Donna Scott. Mrs. Elva Grant was in charge of devotions and Audrey Young gave a talk "Remembrance Day." Mrs. Scott gave the ladies an encouraging talk on activities activities and finances.
