Bowmanville, November 21,1984 Eagles Win Two and Drop One Encounter Last Week By Sani Laskaris The Bowmanville Jr. 'C' Eagles won two out of three games they played this past week. On Monday the learn travelled to Cobourg to face the Cougars and were fortunate fortunate enough to come away with a 6 - 5 victory. Then on Saturday Saturday in Port Perry the Eagles handed the Mojacks a 13 - 2 shellacking. On Sunday the team returned home to face the Lindsay Trent Muskies and were gracious hosts as they handed the Muskies a 4 - 2 decision. In Monday's game against Cobourg the Eagles scored early at the 1:41 mark as Scott Heard was cruising alone in the slot and picked up on Brian Heard's rebound, to beat Wally Yarrow in the Cougars' net. At the 6:59 mark the Eagles took a 2 - 0 lead as Brian Keenan fed Dayrell Rowe who moved inside the Cougar blueline and delivered a hard shot beating Yarrow. The Cobourg squad however was able to rebound and tie the game with two quick goals of their own. First Andy Hickerson scored at 10:14 from John Thompson and Jeff Waldie beat George Kennelt in the Eagles' net at 11:28 with an assist credited to Les Bowness. Before the first period ended the Eagles were successful in restoring the two-goal lead they had enjoyed. enjoyed. With just over five minutes to play in the game the Eagles' Scott Heard received a costly penalty and was assessed a five minute fighting major and the accompanying game misconduct. This meant that the Eagles would play almost the rest of the game a man short. The Cougars quickly capitalized on this opportunity as Scott Murphy scored his second of the game from Jim Goody and Thompson at 15:10. The Eagles' goaltender Kennett became the most important factor in the game and was able to sustain any further Cougar scoring which énabled the Eagles to come away 6 - 5 victors. In Saturday's game the Eagles started their onslaught early as Ken Harman had difficulty controlling the puck in the Mojacks' net and Chris Dreossi flipped the puck over him to give the Eagles a lead that was never to be threatened threatened throughout the game. This goal was scored at 1:17 and Glenn German and Jeff Dawson added the assists. Bowmanville's next goal was scored on a two on one as Brad Clemens passed the puck to Roger Hornsby who beat the Mojacks' netminder at 4:13. Port Perry finally got on the scoreboard at 3:25 as Jeff Johnstone scored from Brian Nicholson. The Eagles came right back as Hickey passed the puck to Keenan who released a quick wrist shot from the slot giving Bowmanville a 10 - 1 lead. Rowe added the other assist for this goal at 4:51. The Mojacks scored their final goal of the game at 7:09 as Mike Ryan beat Scott Hooper in the Eagles' net with assists awarded to Rob Sedore and Nicholson. The Eagles however didn't let up at all and connected for three more goals before the game concluded. Ellis scored his second of the game as he picked up Keenan's rebound and backhanded a shot over a sprawling Harman at 8:33. At the 13:46 mark Rowe picked up his hat trick as Keenan fed him a perfect pass into the slot. The final goal of the game was scored by Young (his first in an Eagles' uniform) with the assists going to St. Amand and Scott Heard at 15:28. On Sunday at home, the Eagles and Lindsay battled to a scoreless first period. The scoring was opened at the thirty-four second mark of the second period as the Muskies' Brad Cormier scored from Paul Ellis. The Muskies increased increased their lead to 2 - 0 when Dan Kearns scored from Glen Fisher and Paul Fisher at 7:39. Bowmanville was able to narrow the gap only twenty- five seconds later as Young scored, with the assists credited to the Heard brothers.
