Meeting On Wednesday, November 21st, 26 ladies of Shiloh U.C.W. met at noon at the New Dutch Oven Restaurant in Orono to enjoy a delicious dinner. This dinner was for their annual Christmas meal. Our guest of honor was our minister, Mrs. Lynda King. Following the dinner, 24 ladies met at the home of Mrs. Ruth Andrews to conduct their monthly meeting. President Ruth Robinson was in charge of this. Everyone joined in the singing of the hymn "Take Time to be Holy" followed by reciting the Lord's Prayer. The unusual devotional was given by Gloria Todd and the prayer by Ruth Andrews. Reports were given by Gloria Todd and Margaret Todd. We enjoyed a humorous reading by Dorothy Trim. Mary-Lou Fonk read 2 cards of thanks. Instead of giving our usual gifts at Christmas time to the nursing homes, it was decided to make a donation to world relief. The December meeting and Christmas party will be held on Wednesday afternoon, December 12th at 1:30 at the home of Mrs. Sherrill Souch. There will be an exchange of gifts among the ladies. The gifts to cost not more than $3.00. Bernice Stark gave a reading on 'Medicine'. Happy Birthday was sung to Mary-Lou Fonk and Gloria Todd. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction followed by a silent auction. A tasty lunch of goodies and cup of tea was served by Group 1 and our President thanked Ruth Andrews for hosting the meeting. News From Wesley ville Correspondent Sunday, November 25th was a beautiful day and people of this area, who know everything everything from bitter cold to snow drifts do sometimes occur on this date, appreciated the mild air. There was some fog and much more in the evening. Service at Welcome United Church was conducted by Rev. Gordon Rutherford and for this Thankoffering Sunday the choir sang two beautiful anthems, "Seed Time and Harvest Shall not Cease" and "The Heavens are Telling." Rev. Rutherford's theme concerned concerned John the Baptist and his message for his time and for ours. The story for the children related to what was familiar to them, their pets. Rev. Rutherford asked if they loved their cat or dog, what they should do for them. If we say we love them but do not care for their needs, our words mean little, and this applies to caring for people as well as animals. John the Baptist called to repentance the people of his day and made it plain that words of repentance without sincerity had no value. John himself was a sincere, humble man, always speaking of one greater than he. The offering was received by Mel McHolm, Chris Beatty, Allin Osborne and Rick Trueman. Coffee was served following the service when all had an opportunity for a visit and discussion of current happenings and future events on the church calendars, especially the U.C.W, concert coming on Dec. First. The young people's group were present working on their project for help to Africa and their own organization. Last meeting on November 18th they made wreaths and for the coming one they plan a trip to Cullen Gardens. All teenagers are welcome to this group for Hope township charge, with president Stephen McHolm and adult advisors Mr. and Mrs, Ron Angus. They plan to take part in the Christmas parade in Port Hope and are planning a spaghetti supper in the future. Birds are still scarce although although some of the rarer species arc around. Clarke Dickinson saw a large snowy owl last week when it lit on a post nearby. When it left, it spiralled up to a considerable height before it flew to the north, Mrs, Hazel Tufford is in her own home again after a prolonged prolonged stay In Peterborough hospital and a brief period in Port Hope hospital. She is making progress slowly. Panasonic.
