New Location For Newcastle Hydro Offices The Newcastle Hydro will be building a new centre of operation in 1985 The general purpose and administration committee will recommend that council council approve a by-law authorizing authorizing the expenditure of $300,000 by the Hydro and the issue of debentures to cover that sum. After reviewing its financial financial position the Hydro Commission found that its funds were inadequate for the construction of a new buildingand its accesories. The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 5, 1984 19 Five Year Plan Released The first draft of the 1985 Capital Budget raised some eyebrows when it was presented to the general purpose purpose and administration committee on December 3. The budget draft for 1985 proposes proposes an 80% increase in the tax levy, $1,071,225 in 1985 as opposed to $596,175 in 1984. The increase is a result of the administrative building building levy, an increased road construction construction program and the needs of the Community Services Department. Department. There are a number of large, capital capital projects outlined in the budget plan. They include a Baseline Com munity Centre (1985), a new town administration facility (1986), a new Bowmanville Arena (1987), renovation renovation of the main fire station and the construction of a Community Services Services Depot (1988). Councillor Diane Hamre was surprised surprised that in these times of government government restraint the staff seemed to be recommending that the Town spend more freely than ever. Many aspects of the first draft of the capital budget were subject to criticism from members of the committee committee and there is sure to be further discussion when the Town Council meets next.
