10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 12,1984 Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Bicentennial Awards Ceremony Your correspondence is on a "pink cloud" today today after receiving the coveted Bicentennial Medal last evening. The Awards presentation ceremony was held on Sunday evening, December 9th, 7 p.m. in the Michael Starr Building- Ontario Ministry of Revenue, 33 King St. West, Oshawa. Hon. Michael Starr, P.C. was Master of Ceremonies and Hon. George Ashe, MPP made the presentations. The recipients were escorted in by Piper John Harness of Bowmanville. After the impressive ceremony- pictures were taken of the different groups- and a reception followed. A large attendance and a great evening of visiting with many old friends! Family News A combined anniversary anniversary celebration and Christmas party was hosted by Norm and Bernice Bernice Mairs on Saturday afternoon and evening. Besides the immediate family- all Norm's family family were present with the exception of his brother in the West. Quite a number of nieces and nephews were bn hand as well. Over thirty in all for this special occasion. After a pot-luck meal with a great variety of food- then the musicians warmed up their instruments instruments and had a dance. Norm and Bernice Bernice were celebrating 41 years of wedded bliss and Norm's sister and husband, Bud and Joyce Virtue of Bowmanville 37 years. Our best wishes for many more to the celebrants. John and Hilda Map- pin, former residents of Nestleton, have moved to Oshawa. At present they are staying with her mother Mrs. Johns of Port Perry. They will be missed by the community. community. Our very best wishes to them. Debbie Vine is much improved in health since being involved in a car accident about ten days ago. A good attendance on Saturday and Sunday at Edgar and Anne Emerson's Emerson's "Open House" of their Studio Pottery Show at their Nestleton home. Interested folks were there from as far away as Collingwood, St. Catherines, Toronto, Sudbury and Peterborough, Peterborough, to mention a few. We wish them the best in their interesting venture. Arthur and Carroll Cawker of Sudbury, were weekend guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker at the farm, and attended attended the Pottery Show on Saturday. Nestleton Women's Institute Christmas Meeting The Christmas meeting of the Nestleton W.I. Branch was held in the Community Centre, Wednesday, December 5th at 12:30 o'clock for a Christmas luncheon. Twelve members sat down to a delicious assortment of mouthwatering mouthwatering casseroles- topped topped off with appetizing desserts and tea. The W.I. Grace was sung. After all had partaken of the meal- the meeting was opened by president Norma Frew- with the Ode, repeating the Mary Stewart Collect in unison, a "Christmas Wish from The Farm" was read, and a cordial welcome to those present. present. The Roll Call was answered by each member stating what dessert she had planned for Christmas- along with the recipe. Sec'y-Treas. Marg France read the minutes of the previous meeting- and gave the financial statement. A letter was received from the Sister Institute- Grove W.I. from Durham County, England. Enclosed was a tea towel and calendar of interest. In return- Nestleton W.I. sent a church calendar and W.I. spoon to the Grove Branch. Many items of business was discussed and decisions made. Cards were signed for the shut-ins. Convenor of Family and Consumer Affairs, Bertha McLaughlin presented thoughts re- the Motto taken from Dr. Ethel Chapman's book "Humanities in Homespun" and Win- nifred Davison read an article from the same book entitled "Christmas at Home." A humorous reading by Rika Wygerde proved enjoyable. enjoyable. She also related how Christmas was celebrated in Holland- her native land- showing how different it was from our Canadian customs. Carols were sung with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. An educational article article was read by Bertha McLaughlin- "Beware of the Market Places" and excellent hints were given as a guide. Meeting closed with 0 Canada, followed by president Norma expressing expressing appreciation to all for the interesting afternoon. Meetings will be dispensed with during January and February- next regular meeting to be held March 6, 1985. Caesarea Euchre Results The weekly card party sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary was held Wednesday evening at the Centre with the following results: First prize winner- Faith Lawrence- 99. Second prize- John Moore- 79. Low- Paul Radford- 45. The Ladies Auxiliary are having a pot-luck supper before their euchre party party on the evening of December 19, at 7 p.m. Everyone bring along a favourite casserole or whatever- a most enjoyable enjoyable time has been planned- the cards after. Try to attend for this special Christmas supper supper and euchre. A friendly friendly group and you will be warmly welcomed. Caesarea Community Church A very good attendance attendance on Sunday morning morning at the friendly Caesarea Church. Robert Heayn was the guest speaker taking his text from Psalm 119- with topic- "Are You Hiding the Word of God-- --a fine theme for Bible Sunday. Robert sang a beautiful solo as well entitled entitled "The Saviour is Waiting to Enter Your Heart," unaccompanied. Rev. W.H. Crawford D.D. played Christmas carols on the organ during during the service. The Christmas concert has been set for Monday, December 17th in the church. The Sunshine Club meets in the Centre on Mondays- 4 to 5 p.m. Jacqueline McDermott at the helm. Babysitting Service The Cartwright Venturers Venturers will be providing a babysitting service for Christmas shoppers in the Town Hall, Blackstock, on December 15 and December 22nd, from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. This is for children 5 years and over, and they must bring their own lunch.
