Seniors' Bus Trip On Monday morning, Dec. 3rd, a bus load of Senior Citizens departed from Newcastle Newcastle Community Hall, in the rain, bound for Niagara Falls. Organizers George and Madeleine Buckley are just the greatest! George hustled around in the rain making certain all luggage was properly properly tagged and Madeleine made sure all passengers had a schedule of events for the two-day trip. Bus driver, Cal Rouse, made his first stop at Bowmanville Mall to pick up a few passengers, making a full bus. Oakville Place Mall provided provided the first shopping. As we were about to depart, George had to search for two missing passengers. Next stop was Andres Wines, Winona. The group was given a slide presentation presentation and tour of the winery. The bottle capping, labelling and packing room is a busy place. At the end of the tour in the hospitality room, the guide opened several kinds of wine, from dry to sweet, and it was served with cheese and crackers. This was also a busy place! At Niagara Falls, Ontario the group checked into Michael's Inn, where the Crago's were lucky enough to have a river view. After supper an enthusiastic Wendy, guided the bus group through Niagara Falls, Ontario and across the bridge to Niagara Falls, New York, for the Festival of Lights. Thousands upon thousands of lights, colours and clear, decorate towers, buildings and trees and it truly is a wonderland. The Cragos took the walking tour in New York, Hazel misdirected Jack and again, a concerned George had to hunt for the lost. Never again will Jack be late for the bus! Someone has to supply noise and excitement at all the stops! Free sightseeing time Tuesday morning gave us a chance to go up to the observation observation tower at Maple Leaf Village and time to telephone Joan Skelding, who reports twin granddaughters, Amanda and Alicia, are doing well. After lunch an unscheduled unscheduled stop at Oneida afforded a special shopping tour, before going to the Niagara Shopping Centre. Ships in the canal and along the lake waiting for the repairs of the Valleyfield gate on the St. Lawrence seaway, provided more scenery but will probably be moving this Monday, Dec. 10. A most capable bus driver guided us safely home, even through a little snow near Oakville. Alighting at Newcastle, Toms IGA store window gaily decorated for Christmas, greeted us. The Advisory Board of St. George's Church met on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the church. The Anglican Church Women held their December meeting at the home of President President Marg Tait on Wednesday, December 5 and had their Christmas party. The work of the Canadian Bible Society was emphasized at the Sunday Services at St. George's Church.
