Enjoy Pot Luck Supper at Solina W.I. On Dec. 12, President Blackie Rowsell welcomed the W.I. members and their guests to our Christmas festivities. festivities. The evening began with a bountiful "pot luck" dinner in the lower hall at 6:30 p.m. Close to one hundred people enjoyed the meal amid the Christmas decorations. decorations. Following dinner, all journeyed upstairs for the meeting and the program, Natalie Koczulab of the 4-H girls "Fitness Fare" club, asked us to "shape up or ship out." The girls demonstrated demonstrated the value of good exercise for us. A presentation presentation was made to Karen Yellowlees and Carol Worden, club leaders. Jessie Tink introduced a male quartet (Harvey Yellowlees, Yellowlees, Charles Langmaid, Wesley Hills and Bruce Taylor). With Alma Langmaid as accompaniest, the men rendered some Christmas selections which we all enjoyed. Pat Best, in doing the motto, read a letter in answer answer to Virginia Brown's question, "Is there a Santa Claus?" A humorous play was put on by the ladies. It was entitled entitled "Rock and Roll at the North Pole." In it we saw a disillusioned Santa turn to a 'Rock and Roll' way of life in an attempt to become popular again with the world's children. Mrs. Santa and the elves followed followed his leadership much to their distress. The play ended happily when a visit from some children showed Santa they liked him as he really was -- jolly, fat and red-suited. The group was assisted by Faye Vice and Donna Johnston. Ladies, we thoroughly enjoyed your "fun" play. A presentation was made to Harold and Anita Jensen who recently moved from our corner to Oshawa. Lois Yellowlees made the presentation presentation on behalf of the community. We miss them but we wish them well in their new home. The Secretary-Treasurer Dorothy Pascoc read the minutes of the November meeting, read the correspondence correspondence and gave the treasurer's treasurer's report. Our W.I. will be 100 years old in 1997, The Year of the Youth is to be held in 1987. Mrs. Leishman will be able to come to our casserole luncheon next spring. It was agreed to sponsor Jeff Knox at the Terry Fox Youth Centre later. Christmas Greetings from Providence - Shaw's W.I, was enjoyed. Niola Ashton gave her report report stating we had four banquets in December. She stated tickets for the New Year's Dance are on sale. Solina W.I. plans to charter charter a bus (if enough persons are interested and those of other institutes) to go to the F.W.I.C, convention for one day in London on June 17, 1985. If you are interested, Alma Langmaid (263-2765) has the registration forms and further information. Please do so before Jan, 15, 1985, Our province hosts this convention once every thirty years. Each lady answered the roll call by placing a gift under the large Christmas tree. Our president thanked all for their help and participation participation in a joyful evening, Adjournment Adjournment followed "O Canada." Canada." 'Merry Christmas and may 1985 be a healthy, prosperous prosperous one for all. United Hospital Fund Raising From Page One porate campaign are all drawn from the local business community.
