Hobbs. 10 Years Ago Wednesday, January 25,1975 On Wednesday, January 8th, Mrs. Ross Allin and Mrs. Jack Crago, of Newcastle, were among the many interested interested volunteers who attended a meeting at the Holiday Inn, Oshawa, in preparation for the Participation House Telethon. The regular monthly executive meeting of the Durham Liberal Association was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Van Nest, Bowmanville, with Dr. Ian Wilson, president, in the chair. Delicious home-made bread and rolls were served at the conclusion of the meeting by Mrs. Van Nest. The recently appointed Salvation Army Commissioner for Canada, Arnold Brown, visited Bowmanville on Thursday, and was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club. Chef Seth Hunt and Legion President Stan Dunn welcomed several hundred branch members and guests to the annual President's Party held at the Legion at noon on New Year's Day. Mitchell, born in Newcastle, and General Manager of Canada Life Assurance Company of Toronto, has been elected Ontario Vice-President of the American Life Convention of Chicago. He is a nephew of Mrs. W.E. Tilley, Beech Avenue, Bowmanville. Mrs. J.W. Jewell and Mrs. W.A. Shane, the two newly elected lady members of the Bowmanville Public School Board were introduced at the regular meeting of the Home and School Club to those attending. It was the members first public appearance since being elected. APPLE BROWN BETTY 6 medium apples, • peeled, cored & sliced Va cup honey 2 tbsp. lemon juice Vi tsp. cinnamon 1 cup rolled oats Va cup brown sugar Vi tsp. cinnamon 2 tbsp. butter ice cream Layer apples in a lightly greased (10 x 6 x 2 in.) glass baking pan. Blend honey, lemon juice and Va tsp. cinnamon. Drizzle over apples. Cook, covered, on High for 5 minutes. Turn apple slices over in pan; rotate pan one- quarter turn. Combine rolled oats, brown sugar, Vz tsp. cinnamon and butter. Sprinkle over apples. Cook, covered, on High for 5 minutes more, rotating pan another one-quarter turn before cooking. Top with scoops of ice cream before serving. (8 servings).
