Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding entertained Mrs. Doreen Lake and Mrs. Helen Hobbs to luncheon on Saturday. Mr. Dale Hunt and Russell, Pontypool, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell. Neighbor Heidi De Vries is a patient in Oshawa General Hospital. Rev. Donald Stiles is progressing so well since heart surgery in Toronto General Hospital it is expected he will return home this week for a period of convalescence. Last week, Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding and Mrs. Madeleine Buckley enjoyed their first W.I. - sponsored rug-braiding lesson at the home of Janet Paeden, Newtonville. Mrs. Olive Henderson is instructing the ladies in this course. The Trillium Unit of the U.C.W. met at the church last Thursday when Bowmanville Hospital Auxiliary ladies explained their volunteer work. Mr. and Mrs. John Scott enjoyed the weekend in Hamilton with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Newton. On their return, they called on Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Slayer of Oakville. Mr. and Mrs. Don Murdoch, Manotick, were Wednesday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade. Mrs. Bernice Hall, Belleville, was a caller with the Wade's on Wednesday evening. With Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Burley for the weekend were grandchildren Allison, Stephen, Adam and Michael Burley, all of Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wilson, Peace River, Alberta, are visiting her relatives in the area, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Stephenson and family, Mr. Arthur Clark and Mrs. May Burley. Paul Curtis, son of Cathy and Raymond Labrie, was baptized Sunday, January 13, 1985. Paul was dressed in a christening gown worn by his father Ray and all his sisters and brothers. It is a special dress for it was made from his grandmother's wedding gown and made and embroidered by her for her children's christenings. Following the baptism, Mr. and Mrs. Labrie, Justin and Paul entertained the following to dinner, the boys' grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Huffman, Port Colbome, their aunt Nancy Huffman, of Welland, who is Paul's godmother, Nancy's boyfriend, the boys' great aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Jean-Marie Garand, of Oshawa, and their uncle Peter Labrie, who is Paul's godfather. Mr. Bruce Trim, Newmarket Newmarket was a Sunday and overnight overnight guest of his mother Mrs. Isabelle Trim. Obituary CALVIN LESLIE MYLES 111 several months, Calvin Leslie Myles, aged 95, passed away at the Strathaven Nursing Nursing Home, Bowmanville, on Wednesday, January 9th, 1985. Born and educated in Essex County, he was the son of William Nelson and Emma Myles. He was married December 12th, 1921, to Hazel Faustina Walters. He was employed as a steam shovel • engineer for about 40 years, retiring approximately 30 years ago. A resident of Strathaven for eight years, he had previously resided in Orono. He was a member of Orono United Church, the Orono I.O.O.F. No. 436. He served in England and France during World War I, D.Ç.M. 92nd Bn. Mr. Myles was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman, and loved children. Surviving are his sons Donald of Bowmanville, Bruce of Newcastle, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Ora Histel of Hamilton. Funeral services were conducted by the Reverend Tom Smith at the Morris Funeral Chapel on Friday. The organist was Mrs. Helen McDonald. Floral tokens were received in his memory from the Orono I.O.O.F. Lodge 436, Shipping and Receiving Dept, of Goodyear, and C.U.P.E. Local 1206.
