The cost of the gift was in the area of $1,000. WINTER FISHING - The unseasonably mild temperatures have delayed the winter pickerel fishing season by about two weeks at Lake Scugog, but if the weather stays below freezing for a few days now the lake will be dotted with fishing huts. Caution is urged, however, as the ice at Lake Scugog can be dangerous. For information information on ice conditions phone 986-5188. Audio-Vision Oldtimers Champions in Warkworth Audio-Vision Oldtimers played in the Warkworth Travellers Oldtimers tourney and came home with the A Championship trophy. After hammering Brighton Old Puckers 10 -1 on Friday, Audio-Vision Oldtimers then played Ralph's Auto Body from Cobourg and lost 4 - 1. Audio-Vision played their last game against Lakefield Commercial Hotel Oldtimers and had to beat them by two goals to win the division championship. The Audio-Vision Oldtimers came up with a super game backed by Ken Veitch's goaltending goaltending to beat Lakefield 4 -1 for the championship. Audio- Vision Oldtimers were led by Phil Solomon with six goals followed by Gary Bradley with three, Ray Pickell and Gary Munroe with a pair, Bruce Meadows and J. R. Tousig- nant singles. Phil Solomon, Gary Bradley and Ken Bradley were picked M.V.P.s in the three games. Audio-Vision Oldtimers would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson of Springbrook for opening up their home to the squad while they had a five hour wait between games. On Sunday, Jan. 13 Audio- Vision hosted the Oshawa Sudsers at Darlington and nipped them 6 - 5. Scoring for Audio-Vision were Mike Hewer a pair, Paul McIntyre, J. R. Tousignant, Gary Bradley and Phil Solomon all with singles. Dave Leedy had a strong game in goal for Audio-Vision Oldtimers. Bantams Drop Two Games Wednesday, Jan. 9 was the date of the return match with Pickering for the Bell boys. This time the game was extended and although the boys lost, as they had the first , time, they found a way in the 'bird period to make it hot for "'Whickering. w " The first period was a sparring match with both teams not really wanting to lake the lead. The second appeared like it was to be the same until at the 8:35 mark Pickering managed to score. In the third period despite tenacious play by the Bell boys, the two teams exchanged exchanged a pair of goals to give the Pickering squad the 3 - 2 win. Scoring for Bowmanville was Brad Carnegie from Kevin Flintoff, Gareth Stone from Mark Tripp. Saturday, Jan. 12 pitted Cobourg against the Bell boys. The final on this was 4 - 1 Cobourg. The Bowmanville boys came to this expecting a hard hitting game and were not disappointed. Striking early with two in the first, Cobourg bracketed the lone second period Bell goal with a second pair in the third. Bowmanville's lone goal was scored by Eric Janssens with some strong forechecking forechecking by Guy Freeman and Kevin Flintoff. The Bell boys start playoffs Saturday, Jan. 19th at Darlington against Cobourg. J&J Atoms Tie Hydro On Saturday, Jan. 12, J&J Atoms played another strong game. They were ahead 2 - 0 going into the halfway point of the second period. The team was working on a shutout for their goalie Sean Brown. But it was not to be. Ontario Hydro got two quick goals making it 2 -2. J&J played a strong defensive defensive game with great forechecking forechecking by Jamie Davidson. Grant Spencer scored the first goal unassisted. Dan Walters following Grant in on a play, capitalized on Grant's shot for a goal. Great team work guys. J & J kept up their defensive style of play throughout the game with good aggressive play by Donny Richards, Jesse Bennett, Chris Schievink, Jeff Wright and Dan Walters. Oshawa Knights Lose to Elmira On January 5th, the Oshawa Knights travelled to Bancroft for the fourth annual Burke's Jewellers Hockey Tournament. Tournament. In the first game against Renfrew, Oshawa won 4 - 3 in overtime. A pass from Geordy Bowen to Steve Daize gave Oshawa the win. Also scoring were Rob Worden from Scott and Jeff Down, Scott Down from Rob Worden and Jeff Down, and Hugh Francis from Kevin Wilbur. In the second game against Tottenham, Oshawa won 4 -1 with only the superb goaltending goaltending of the Tottenham goalie keeping the game fairly even.
