* 2 The Canadian'Statesman, Bowmanville, February 6,1985 Kidney Foundation Dance to be Held Next Month in Newcastle Local residents are being asked to circle their calendars to Saturday, March 2 for the fourth annual Kidney Foundation Dance being sponsored by the Ransberry family of north Orono. The dance will be held at the Newcastle Community Hall in the Village of Newcastle. Music will be provided by Bill Taylor and The Tradesmen, a five piece band offering both country and western and contemporary music. The evening begins at 8 p.m. and continues to la.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. The Ransberry family are members of the Durham Region Unit of the Toronto and District Branch of the Kidney Foundation. Tickets to the dance are $15 a couple. Norma Ransberry got involved with fund raising for the Kidney Foundation after their son Don underwent a kidney transplant in 1969. Through medical research made possible through fund raising by the Kidney Foundation, Don Ransberry enjoys a healthy lifestyle. March has been designated Kidney Month. Launches New Smoking Program Durham Region Lung Association Association will launch its new smoking cessation program "Countdown" in Oshawa, starting Tuesday, March 5th. The seven session session Course will be held at Eastview Boys and Girls Club, Eulalie Avenue with a choice of either afternoon or evening sessions for a $50 registration fee. Included in the cost of registration is a relaxation tape 1 and maintenance program. Countdown offers two programs in one - a group program and a self-help program. The course is designed designed to not only help smokers successfully "kick the habit", but to also teach new behaviours which ensure ensure the ex-smoker can maintain a non-smoking lifestyle. Course members have only five weeks in which to break a lifetime addiction.
