The topic under discussion "The Strong Willed Child." Groups of six or seven discussed the various age levels, and of course the two types of young children, the compliant child versus the defiant. Many interesting view points were discussed by the young and in some cases "not so young." This time of idea exchange is of great value and all young parents in this area are urged to take advantage of this highly recommended series of Dr. Dobson's. This series is of course interdenominational interdenominational and all parents are invited to attend. Unit News The members of Unit No. 1 met on Wednesday, February 6 in the main hall. The devotions were from Genesis and the meditation by Stella Carson "Healthful suggestions suggestions for each day of the New Year." The hymn "Take Time to be Holy" was sung by all and Stella Carson and Dorothy Barnett gave a lovely duet "All Beautiful the March of Days" (red hymn book) with Bertha Touchburn at the piano. Doris Wannan gave a reading on "Love" and Edna Chapman read a poem from Helen Steiner Rice. Dorothy Bennett gave the "Mission Moments" and the announcements were given out for future events and catering. Ten ladies of Unit No. 2 met in the church hall on Tuesday afternoon, February 5. Mrs. Velma Armstrong and Mrs. Annie McNally were in charge of the meeting. The devotions were based on "Love." Eileen Billings gave the mission talk "Impressions of Korean Women Visitors to Canadian Churches." A silent auction took place and fun for all, followed by a tasty lunch served by Velma's group. Invite your neighbors in for lunch and when out shopping drop into a restaurant for a treat! Many seniors citizens suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure and should read all labels on canned and prepackaged prepackaged foods for salt and sugar contents. Follow a routine in rest, eating, sleeping, etc. and it will pay dividends to exercise daily. Films were shown of proper care of your teeth or dental plates, how to floss and at all times keep your mouth clean. Disease can set into your gums, so keep regular check-ups with your dentist. An interesting discussion period followed the films and members talked about personal problems, diets, etc. Plan to attend these worthwhile worthwhile sessions as we owe it to ourselves to improve our quality of life. CONNORS The death of Leon V. Connors, aged 65, occurred on Monday, February 4th, 1985, in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, following a short illness. Born and educated in Bowmanville, he was the son of Thomas and Hattie Connors. On July 21st, 1956, he was married to Mary Viola Cowan. A lifelong resident of Bowmanville, he had been employed for 36 years by Goodyear of Canada, Bowmanville, retiring 3 years ago. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 178. He served with "D" company, 1st Midland Regiment in World War II and was a prisoner of war. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Mary, daughters Theresa Connors, Bowmanville, Margie White, Oshawa, brothers Lome and Vernon, sisters Dorothy, Marion, Josephine and Phyllis and grandchildren Kevin and Jody White and Robert Connors. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Eugene. Mr. Connors rested at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home with funeral services held on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Roman. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. MRS. ELSIE VANDER- MEER Born and educated in the Netherlands, Mrs. Elske VanderMeer, aged 79, passed away in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville on . Wednesday, January 23rd, 1985, following an illness of two and a half weeks. Daughter of the late Auke and Hotske Piersma, she was married April 25th, 1930 to the late Mr. Hans VanderMeer. Residing in Holland for 46 years they immigrated to Canada on May 12th, 1951 with eight children, and resided resided in Ashburn, Nestle- ton, Newcastle and for the past 16 years in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Mrs. VanderMeer was a member of the Maranatha Christian Reformed Church and of the church choir, the Lions Bowling Golden Age Club and the Youth of Yesterday, Yesterday, Church group. Lett to mourn her passing are her children, Hattie (Mrs. Wiebe Vander Gaast), Don VanderMeer, Auke, Sieds, Sjerp, Rose (Mrs. G. Oldejans), Adrian VanderMeer, VanderMeer, Verna ' (Mrs. Ivan Joosse), thirty two grandchildren grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
