Semi final action on Feb. 7 saw the best game of hockey this season end in a two to one decision for Hunt's Photography Photography over Norm's Deli Hawks. Both Tim Va ns tone and Britt Murphy, goaltenders for Hunt's and the Deli Hawks, were outstanding, as they both made numerous spectacular saves throughout the fast and furious contest. Steve Carey, from Don Farrow and Neil Jones, scored the only Deli marker. Hunt's first goal came from John Hogarth, assisted by Terry Van Schyndel. The winner was scored by Joe Burns, from Paul Reid and Terry Van Schyndel, who led the Photo crew with tenacious checking and heavy hitting to go with his two assists. Stickouts for Brothers Pizza were Doug Rickard, Jerry Leddy, Dan Quinney, and goalie Jeff Vyfschaft, who robbed Town Sports sharpshooters sharpshooters on numerous occasions. occasions. The pick of Town Sports would have to be the line of Baker, Dusseldorp and Prentice, Prentice, who controlled the play whenever they were on the ice, only to be thwarted by the steady play of Vyfschaft. Winning! And that's exactly what Buckham Toros did Saturday night at Darlington Darlington against Midland. Already worked into a playoff fever pitch by a mid-week victory over an AAA team from Richmond Hill, Toros stormed onto the ice, quickly hemming in a surprised Midland defense with their tenacious fore-checking, crushing body- checks and blistering blasts from the blue line. At 9:22 of the first, Greg Healey took a pass on the fly from Neil Taylor, streaked down the left wing, issuing a pass to Stephen Smith in the slot who put it home. Within seconds, Shane Armstrong in full stride blasted one that left the goalie in suspension to put Toros ahead 2 - 0. Midland went on the power play three times in the first, scoring during the third to end the period 2-1. The Toro assault faded in the second period long enough to allow Midland to tie the score and set the scene for a third period battle. And what a battle it was with end-to-end action that left the fans hanging onto the edges of their seats as both teams took turns leading the attack. Tony Van Hoof cutting across in front of the net, picked up a pass from Doug Lever and Greg Goode and raised it over a sprawling goaltender. This proved to be the game winner and the battleground moved to Midland on Sunday. All players gave 100 percent and outstanding was Troy Mutton on defense in a fine two-way game. Sunday proved to be another crowd-pleaser as both teams realized the importance of the play. The scenario was the same but the plot was reversed reversed as Midland drew first blood forcing Bowmanville into catch-up which occurred. finally in the second when Tony Van Hoof repealed his fine performance of Saturday transferring a pass from Nicky Dennis and Doug Lever into a sensational goal. Within seconds, the Healey-Arm- strong-Smith line exploded again with Greg blasting one from the blue line into the net to put Toros ahead 2-1. Before the period was finished the score was tied once again setting up another third period contest. Fans were not disappointed with the play which held victory victory up for either team to take many times. Unfortunately, Midland grabbed it at 1:54 when Toros were unable to clear the puck away, from in front of their own net. The game ended 3 - 2 in favour of Midland, leaving the best of five series tied. Congratulations Congratulations to Mike Ruthard who played superior goaltending in both games. Considering the calibre of both of these teams, hockey fans should show up at Darlington next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to see Toros win their next one, first hand. In mid-week action Toros proved their shooting skills by downing Richmond Hill 7 - 2 in an exciting fast-paced,game. Scoring: Tony Van Hoof (Nicky Dennis) ; Shane Armstrong ( Stephen Smith, Troy Mutton); Tony Van Hoof (Shane Armstrong, Doug Lever) ; Jim Pithie; Doug Lever (Tony Van Hoof, Nicky Dennis); Nicky Dennis (Doug Lever, Tony Van Hoof) ; Shane Armstrong (Stephen Smith, Greg Healey). 2 For The Price Of 1 THE AVERAGE NORTH AMERICAN CAR NOW COSTS ABOUT *13,000.
