This team was jointly sponsored by Ray McCullough Sand & Gravel, Gary's Service Centre and Henry McKay Contracting. Special thanks to Dean Joncas for doing such a fine job of reporting the weekly jousts for we armchair hockey fans in order that we can enjoy the highlights of the games without freezing our buns while doing so. Pleased to see a number of our Yelverton young folks' photos appear in the Newcastle Independent, in the Manvers Figure Skating Annual Carnival. Congratulations Congratulations to all those who participated participated and were successful successful in their competition and test days. We should also like to extend extend hearty congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Hans Geis- berger of Zion area who observed observed their 60th wedding anniversary. Hans was a valued Director of Durham Federation a few years back -- back in those good old days when Grandpa Bruce Taylor was a force to be reckoned with at home and in farm organizations. Wonder if son Lawrence is going to follow in papa and mama's footsteps?? Congratulations Congratulations to Bruce and Jean on their new status. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm Malcolm accompanied by Cor- rie and Harvey Malcolm attended attended the annual pork dinner dinner of the Northumberland Pork Producers in Roseneath Community Centre on Saturday evening, evening, April 12. A capacity crowd of almost 300 sat down to a delicious roast pork dinner served buffet style. Other representatives from Victoria County included included Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown and Mr. and Mrs, Louis DeKoker. The hall was appropriately deco- ratéd by the O'Grady family by "Piggy" cutouts including including a full fledged chorus line of Miss Piggys. Awards were presented to those pork producers who had attained attained the highest grading pork index for the year - from an enviable 106.8 index down. Greetings were brought from the local M.P.P. Howard Howard Sheppard and Pork Board dignitaries: Howard Malcolm, Chairman of the Can. Pork Council, Ten Jensen Jensen and Doug Farrell of the Provincial Board. Music for the exuberant dancing that followed was supplied by a 5 piece band - the Silos from Napanee. Just in case anyone was still hungry, a buffet lunch of a wide range of pork products was again served at midnight. midnight. No place for anyone to go with waistline problems problems obviously! Mr. Howard Malcolm spent several days this week out west where he attended attended the Alberta Pork Producers' Annual Meeting and discussed the countervailing countervailing duty currently imposed imposed on Canadian pork imports imports to U.S.A. Organ Dedication The dedication of the recently recently purchased Hammond Hammond electric organ (not Yamaha I'm told) was a howling success (or should that be a wailing success) not too adept with our adjectives adjectives when describing organic music. Anyhow the weatherman cooperated, the large attendance necessitated necessitated additional seats being moved in, and a number number of talented guest artists added their talents to the event. Guests were present from Bethany, Blackstock, Mitchells Corners, Oshawa, Orono and Lindsay as well as other local communities. The service opened with a prelude. A solo -- "Livingin the name of Love" by Lana Malcolm with her own guitar accompaniment. Quentin and Darrell Robinson Robinson provided a fine duet "Wholly unto the Lord" with their own stringed accompaniment. accompaniment. Mr. Dennis Fransky then proceeded with a brief ceremony dedicating dedicating the electric organ to the Glory of God and to his honor. Mrs. Brenda Malcolm played for the opening hymn and Mrs. Ernestine Robinson continued the game of musical chairs as she presided at the organ for the choir's anthem "Jesus is Calling." Mrs. Cathy Malcolm of Janetvillc teamed up with Mrs. Linda Page for a piano - organ duel "Abide with Me." Mr. •Fransky read two approp riate scripture lessons and then led the responsive scripture reading. Mrs. Linda Page and Mr. Jack Gordon of Janetville teamed up for another piano and organ duet -- "Nearer My God to Thee." Mr. Dennis Fransky provided provided a timely sermon in keeping with the occasion. Mr. Irwin Smith of Port Perry sang a fine solo "How Great Thou Art" with his own organ accompaniment. Ushers for the day were Lisa Johnson, Lynn Moore, Clifford Wright and Ralph Pfoh. Mrs. Linda Pfoh presided presided at the organ for the Offertory Offertory and contributed an organ solo - The Lord's Prayer. Following the church service the U.C.W. provided refreshments in the church hall -- sandwiches, cookies, tea and coffee etc. Many former residents of our Yelverton community were welcomed back for the special dedication; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wright of Blackstock, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Staples of Orono, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stacey of Mitchell's Corners and their daughter Carol, hubby and. family of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Weatherilt of Bethany. Following the bountiful lunch supplied by the ladies of the community, a musical program was provided provided in three parts. In the first segment, Lana Malcolm, Malcolm, Quentin and Darryl Robinson entertained the gathering with vocal numbers numbers to their own guitar accompaniment. accompaniment. Part 2 consisted consisted of a quartet of musicians, musicians, Lana and Murray Malcolm, Glenn Warburton of Lindsay and Ian Page provided music of a somewhat somewhat different flavor. The final segment was provided provided by the musical Bristow Bristow family - Dorothy and Gerald Bristow, Gary and Cathy Bristow with Cathy demonstrating a fine singing singing voice. All of this took place in the church hall and was much enjoyed by those in attendance. A Few Spots Available for YWCA Weekend There are a few remaining remaining spaces in the Oshawa YWCA Waist Away Weekend to be held May 31st --June 2nd. A super weékend has been planned to "slmpe-tip" for summer at the Bayview Wildwood Resort on beautiful beautiful Sparrow Lake in Huronia Country. Alzheimers to Hold Meeting In Bowmanville A distinguished professional panel will provide information and answer questions at the April meeting of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region to be held in Bowmanville. Panel members will include: Desmond Webster, M.D., F.R.C.P.(C). Dr. Webster is a psychiatrist and Director of the Psycho-Geriatric Unit at the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. John G. Howes, solicitor. Mr. Howes practises in Pickering and is a partner in the firm of Howes & Head. Karen McMillan, M.S.W. Karen is Sr. Social Worker with the Psycho-Geriatric Unit at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. The meeting will he held on Thursday, April 25 at the Stralhavcn Nursing Home, 261 King St. E. (llwy 2), Bowmanville.
