Many of the Allison family members were present and we are pleased to report that Joan, Mervin's wife, is feeling well again, and was able to attend. Following the baptism of Candice Marie McCrum and cousin Bradley Ryan Couch, Bradley's great-grandparents Mary and Alfred Garrod entertained the families to luncheon, on Sunday, April 28, 1985. Last Monday Mrs. Bessie Dean entertained the ladies of the Euchre Club. Mrs. Kathleen Kimball and Mr, and Mrs. Robin Alldred were among the Newcastle relatives who attended the 40th wedding anniversary party at Brownsdale, in honour of Jack and Winnie McKay, Starkville. We extend our congratulations. Mrs. Louise Jose and family attended the 80th birthday party on Saturday, April 27, in honour of her brother, Mr. Howard Cryderman. She reports that two hundred and seventy-five guests were received by the Cryderman's at their home, Bowmanville. We extend best wishes. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gordon, Port Hope and Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cooper, Oshawa, were Sunday evening dinner guests of Mrs. Kathleen Kimball. Allan Haldenby attended a meeting of the Clergy of the Deanery of Durham and Northumberland at the Rectory in Grafton on Thursday, April 25th. At the 11 a.m. service on Sunday the choir sang the anthems, Swing Low Sweet Chariot and Father, Hear the Prayer We Offer. Four children were baptized; Kendall Sarah, daughter of Kenneth and Jody Burtch; Bradley Ryan, son of Thomas and Rosie Couch; James Randolph, son of David and Judith Metcalf; Candice Marie, daughter of Gregory and Debbie McCrum. The medal-winning students were Tracy Johnson, who received gold, Heidi Geisler with gold, Kevin Thomas with gold, Vanessa Yeo with silver, and Norajean Bradley with silver and bronze. Congratulations to all! On Thursday, the 24th, the school gymnastics team competed in a meet at B.S.P.S. The students who won gold medals were Wendy Dykstra, Vickki Gillard, and Norajean Bradley. The silver medals were won by Vanessa Yeo and Yvonne Sandor. The bronze medals were won by Tracy Johnson, Karen Yates, Jennifer Lemke, and Tammy Mclvor. On Thursday, April 18th, the boys' basketball team won their eighth consecutive Western Area Championship defeating the Pines 31 - 25. Way to go! The girls' basketball team finished their season by winning the Courtice Tournament Tournament Championship by defeating defeating Lake Vista. The girls' grade 7 basketball team played a good game in Black- stock on April 27th. Last week, during Education Education Week, many events took place. All week, students' art was displayed at the Bowmanville Bowmanville Mall. At the school, the students discussed Egerton Ryerson, the man behind the Ontario school system. On the morning of Friday, the 26th, Constable Hethering- ton gave a presentation on "Railroad Trespassing." The show discussed the dangers of railroads and how to stay safe. We thank him for coming. That afternoon, several students attended the Seneca College Fashion Show produced produced by young designers. All the students who attended thank Miss Dean for giving them this opportunity. Many grade eight students are now visiting a residential camp in Huntsville, Camp Tawingo. They are enjoying the many activities scheduled and the chance to be away from their parents. We congratulate Jonathan Goad again for winning the Eastern Ontario Speaking Contest in Prescott. We wish him continued success on Sunday, May 5th, 1985, at the All-Ontario Finals to be held in Burlington, Ontario.
