PC Candidate Stresses Results DuringHisTerm By Sam Cureatz The most important thing about being a member of Parliament is representing each and every constituent in the riding of Durham East. It is a unique riding with a large rural area and almost a third of the city of Oshawa. With my P.C. Association, I was able to fund a second riding office and have continued to do so since 1979. Through the assistance of my staff in both riding offices in Bowmanville and Oshawa and my office at Queen's Park, we have answered literally thousands of phone calls and letters and conducted numerous personal interviews. I promise that this service will continue. In 1977,1 began to talk about jobs for our area. In 1981, we continued our campaign regarding regarding jobs, knowing that employment was a key factor in making our area strong. I bring to your attention the commitment that the government government of Ontario and Ontario Hydro have made for the continued continued construction of the Darlington G.S. Presently, there are some 4000 men and women working on this site which brings income to families and to merchants of my riding. The Generating Station has had other spinoff effects that have contributed financially to our community. There have been large projects projects such as the monetary commitment to the building of the pool at the Bowmanville High School and more recently, Ontario Hydro's contribution to the addition of the Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. Other ministries of our Queen's Park administration have also contributed to the welfare of our community. We can all take pride in our business cores in Bowmanville Bowmanville and the Village of Newcastle Newcastle where the Ministry of Transportation and Communicàtion has made substantial improvements along with the Municipality for the revitalization of our all important main streets. Also, the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation has contributed to new arenas, community centres and parks in the areas of Solina, Newcastle, Bowmanville Bowmanville and Orono. Of a more practical nature, I was pleased to have participated in the announcement of more nursing home beds which were seriously required in the Bowmanville area and the approval. lof the 3.1 million dollar capital funding for the immediate " exptffoion of Bowmanville Hospital. The city of Oshawa has also received its share of development. development. If I can refresh all of your memories of the recent opening of the new Revenue Building in downtown Oshawa along with its parking facility and there is the new Court House built on King Street East in Oshawa to house our Provincial Courts. Might I also say how very pleased I am to have a good working relationship with the Board of Directors of Durham College. Through the BILD program and the Ministry of Colleges and Universities extensive capital funding of 5.2 million dollars has allowed for continuous continuous expansion of Durham College to provide practical training for our youth. And yet these major projects projects have been balanced off with a commitment that I have made to the continued enhancement and beautification beautification of our environmental surroundings. The Ganaraska Conservation Authority and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Conservation Authority have benefited in monetary commitments for the continuation continuation of their Forest Centre and purchasing of the Oshawa Creek Valley respectively. respectively. Our co-operation has also extended not only within the governmental jurisdictions but to private agencies, I have been very pleased to have been working along with the YWCA in the Town of Newcastle Newcastle in being able to accommodate them with office space for the expansion of their programs into the rural part of my riding. However, local matters will still play a major role for me as your representative which is evident from my continued support for projects such as the North Oshawa Community Centre and an adequate, safe and affordable water supply in Newtonville. My first priority has always been the representation representation of all the people of Durham East and my two riding offices will continue to assist me in serving my constituents. I am proud of my record in the Parliament of Ontario. As the former Deputy Speaker, I was judged not only by my Conservative colleagues but by prominent members of the opposition. I am able to quote from Parliament's official publication Hansard where Bob Nixon, the former leader of the Liberal Party, and Jack Stokes, NDP member and former Speaker of the House, complimented me on my fair and judicious management of Parliament. §eiHbe üealtf) â>6oppe is the place for all your baking supplies and save on bulk foods, vitamins, herbs and all natural foods.
