12 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 1,1985 Section Two Newton ville Mr. and Mrs. Arial Lang- staffe, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ogden and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Boughen, attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Couroux of Kendal held at Bewdley Arena Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dwyer of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nesbitt of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Todd of Starkville were dinner guests on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Farrow. The U.C.W. held their monthly meeting last Wednesday in the Sunday School with 14 present. After the welcome by the president Jean Kimball, all repeated the Purpose followed by the reading of the previous meeting meeting by the secretary, Bernice Henderson. The U.C.W. anniversary services will be held on May 26th, with Lois McLeod the speaker who will talk on the "Youth of Today." Final arrangements were made concerning music, usherettes and envelopes. The correspondence was read, treasurer's report given also the Sunshine report, a report of the recent bus trip to Lanark. The June meeting was also discussed. Margaret Elliott, Jessie Best, Shirley Stapleton, Sandra Mclnnes and Marlene Stacey took part in the Devotional. Mrs. Bessie Vaneyk of Tyrone spoke of her work with the Presbyterial with the Archives work, concerning concerning scrapbooks, clippings and the best way to preserve these for future use. She also spoke of the earlier women, describing their work and their way of worship to the present time. She also made mention of Mrs. Cecil Burley's book. Lunch was served around the tables and a social time was enjoyed, recalling the early 1960's when Bessie lived with her family, here. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Clark visited Mrs. Loretta Fleury of Petewawa over the weekend. Newtonville-Starkville Bowling 50-50 Draw - Patricia Anne Osborne. The executive of the Women's Institute met Friday morning at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding to plan for the year's work. Mrs. Inez Boughen spent a week with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Osmond, returning home from Labrador on Thursday. While there she took part in the wedding of their daughter Miss Harriet Inez Osmond to Mr. Marshall Heard on Friday, April 19th. Mrs. E. Gordon of Orono spent the time with Wallace and enjoyed enjoyed a few days with them since Inez returned home. Mr. Bert Tompkins is a patient in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville since last week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tresise of Oshawa were callers on Sunday with Mrs. Phyllis Peck. Mr. and Mrs. C. R, Farrow with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murphy of Newcastle were dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lee of Cambray and in the evening attended the U.C.W. Anniversary Anniversary church services at Cambray. The music was provided by the College Community Choir - 60 voices from Lindsay of which Helen Lee is a member. Tliere were nine and one- ludf tables of progressive euchre at the Hall on Friday evening with the following winners: Norma Moffat 92, John Lowery 90, Reg Elliott 81, Wanda McNeil 80, Aleck Moffat 77, Lena Graham 75 points. 50-50 draw was won by Phyllis Peck. Next card party is on May 10th. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Staple- ton, Nadine and Sharon, Mr, and Mrs. Allan Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Art Reimstra and Susie, Mrs. Marlene Slacey and Beverley attended the 411 Summary Day held at the Bowmanville High School on Thursday evening where the girls modelled their outfits they had made. Also their scrapbooks were viewed by the parents. Sunday morning church greeters were Doreen Green and Margaret McDonald, The sermon was entitled "Rejoice in the Lord's Salvation" and the choir snag "My Redeemer." The tickets for the Beef Bar-b-(|ue on July 1st are now ready to be sold from any of the church men.
