Mr. and Mrs. Ray Maki of Thunder Bay spent a few days last week with Mrs. Janet Paeden. Mr. and Mrs. John Goldie of Zion were dinner guests on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice O'Neill. Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Farrow visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Clysdale at Omemee and Mr. Orville Falls at Peterborough. And in the evening, visited Mr. and Mrs. Alf Peirin at Peterborough. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Staple- ton visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Henderson, Saturday evening. A skip-a-thon was held at the school on the 15th of May for a two-hour period to raise money towards the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Grades 3, 4,5 and 6 pupils took part and raised $1,500 through pledges. Burger King donated drinks and several mothers and teachers assisted. Congratulations Congratulations to the 40 children who took part. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott visited Miss Catherine Stewart of Kendal on Sunday afternoon. The U.C. Women held their monthly meeting last Wednesday Wednesday evening. in the Sunday School room. After the welcome welcome by the President Jean Kimball, the Purpose was repeated repeated in unison by the 16 ladies present. The minutes were read and approved, also the treasurer's report, the sunshine report and the four weddings we are catering to on June 15th and 29th, also in August 10th and 24th. The June meeting will be held on June 20th (Thursday) evening with a dinner at the Dutch Oven and to meet at the church at 5:30 p.m for anyone for a ride. Let Jean Kimball or Dorothy Stapleton know by June 15th so that reservations can be made. Don and Donna Robins have looked after the flower beds and have placed potted plants at the entrance to the church. The Girl Guides did the raking of the lawns. Better lighting in the Sunday School was discussed, also new drapes to be ordered for the windows. The Bazaar to be held on October 26th (Saturday) and a bus trip to the Kitchener District on the 28th of September. Carole Gardner expressed thanks for the sweets which we catered to on her 25th wedding anniversary, anniversary, held at Newcastle Hall, the previous week. Jessie Best and Berneice Milligan were in charge of the Devotional followed by a reading reading by Margaret Elliott. Collection was taken. Misses Jan Farrow, Donna Gloss, Angie Donoghue, Heather Carr, Marcia Andrews, Andrews, with their Guide leaders Phyllis Knapp and Jean Kimball, travelled by bus, leaving Newtonville at 8 o'clock to Casa Loma, Toronto on Saturday, for the 75th anniversary anniversary of Guiding in Canada, with the Newcastle Guides and Pathfinders. The girls were very fortunate to have their photo taken with Mrs. Betty Clay, the youngest daughter of Lord and Lady Baeden Powell. Greeters and usherettes were Bernice Henderson, Janet Paeden, Phyllis Peck and Sandra Mclnncs, Potted mums and bouquets of lilac adorned the altar. Mrs, Carole Gardner was the organist and played for the choir who sang "Sweeter Every Moment," "Take My Hand," and "Constantly "Constantly Abiding," Mrs. Jean Kimball led in the service, assisted by the guest speaker, Mrs. Lois McLeod of Orono. She spoke on the youth of Today and the problems llicy have to contend with such as unemployment. Next Sunday, June 2nd, Mr. Frank Stapleton will lx 1 the guest speaker at all three charges. Saturday afternoon, a Minse mid Bake Sale was held on the church grounds with the three charges all assisting.
