We extend congratulations to Doug and Marilyn and wish them happiness and health, even though Marilyn is now nursing a broken ankle. Mr. Fred Graham, Jessica and Adrian, Madison, New Jersey, visited Saturday evening with his aunt, Mrs. K. Kimball. Holiday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Graham were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hodsoll and Stephanie, of Whitby and Mr. and Mrs. Fred K. Graham, Jessica and Adrian, of Madison, New Jersey. Mr. Herbie Paeden has returned home from Memorial Hospital, Bowman- ville. Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding returned home Saturday after spending the Christmas week with George and Joan Skelding and family, Niagara Falls. On Sunday, Elizabeth received the news that granddaughter granddaughter Linda and husband Tony Vaicius of St. Catharines were proud parents of a baby sister for Allison. Flower Arranging Course at Y.MiC.A. This winter, the Durham Region Family YMCA is offering silk flower-arranging classes at a variety of levels of expertise. For the beginner - you will learn many techniques used by professionals when making beautiful silk flower arrangements. Each evening you will receive instruction on one of the following types of arrangements...cup and saucer, basket, wall arrangement, and the basic table arrangement. Attendance at the first class of this course is mandatory, since basic wiring techniques are taught. This basic course, begins on Monday, Jan. 20 and runs for four weeks - from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Henry St. High School in Whitby. For those who have already completed the basic course, our instructor will be teaching further floral design techniques at the intermediate level. Participants will receive instruction in arranging silk flowers in a bud vase with a 4" opening, a round table centre, a triangular arrangement, and an 'L'-shaped arrangement. This intermediate course begins on Monday, Feb. 17, and rims for four weeks - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Henry St. High School in Whitby. The advanced level of flower-arranging will give those who have taken the basic and intermediate courses further training in freedom work of flower- arranging. Arrangements made will include a basic display, using large greens for background, a dried working arrangement', and an oriental arrangement. This is an excellent refresher course. The course begins on Wednesday and runs for four weeks - 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Henry St. High School in Whitby. Donna Ruttan, experienced in floral design, will instruct each of the above classes. Bryan Ransom's sermon was Skating Club Will Host Tournament The Bowmanville Figure Skating Club is planning to host upwards of 175 skaters when the. annual Pine Ridge Tournament comes to town on Saturday, February February 15. Mary Tillcock, tournament tournament chairman, said last week that the day's activities activities will include both figures figures and free skating. Athletes from the beginners' beginners' level to the fourth figures figures will be represented, with action commencing at 8 a.m. and concluding some time around. 10 or 11 p.m. Mrs. Tillcock said a total of 10 clubs will be present. These clubs are from as far away as Ajax in the west to Cobourg in the east and Uxbridge Uxbridge in the north. The Pine Ridge Tournament Tournament is an inter-club event hosted by various towns on a rotating basis. Bowmanville Bowmanville was last in charge of . the Pine Ridge Tournament 10 years ago. Mrs. Tillcock said the Bowmanville Figure Skating Skating Club will be responsible for hospitality, providing judges, booking ice time, and many other aspects of organizing the competition. "We're hoping the town will stand behind us." said Mrs. Tillcock, who also noted that tournaments such as this one bring large numbers of spectators to the town. Those who attend next month's tournament will, no doubt, see some of our future skating stars in action. action.
