The Dutchman Toros jumped to an early lead in the first period when they trapped the visiting team in their own end zone. Terry VanLonden took control of the puck, gave it to Tyler Stokes who quickly moved in behind the net, out the other side and slipped it to Jason Crosbie at the point. Jay made no mistake when he slammed his shot past the Peterborough netminder. The Toros continued their relentless checking through the first period and on into the second until it finally paid off again. Richard Bateman assisted on Tracy Lemke's goal, after Richard's initial shot was stopped by the Peterborough goaltender, the rebound popped out to Tracy who easily slipped it into the net. The Toros scored their final goal of the game when David Szabo carried the puck from the Toros end zone as far as the defending blue line where he passed it up the middle to Tyler Stokes who broke around one defender before he notched the team's third of the game. Unfortunately, the Peterborough Peterborough team wouldn't give up, and when the Toros started taking penalties (five of them in the last half of the third period), the visiting boys started to score. Bing! Bang! Boom! And within a matter of minutes another sure win went out the window. Red Eagles Blank Little Britain Eagles 2, Merchants 0 On Sunday at Little Britain, goalie A1 Daza of the Cowan Pontiac Jr. C Eagles, posted the league's first shutout of the season, facing 27 shots. The Eagles, once again playing short handed, iced only 12 skaters. Assistant Coach Carl Nielson handled the bench while Coach Paul Robinson attended a novice tournament out of town. A shutout in hockey at any level is almost unheard of, but a combination of goal keeping, strong defence, and back Orono Dumps King Garden Oldtimers By Bob Sheridan Orono Oldtimers were at their best on Friday night when they jumped out to an early 6 - 0 lead before Bowmanville could find the range. Orono goals were scored by Garry Eames with four, Don and Jim Rickard and Jerry Garnatt with two each, Keith West and John Mather each scored one goal. The Bowmanville line of Hugh German with two goals, Grant Flintoff with a goal and four assists and George Sainsbury with three assists put on a fine offensive display. A1 Woodlock scored from the point while playing with this unit. Ray Crombie scored the final goal of the game when he rushed in from the point to blast in a goal mouth pass. On Sunday, we rounded out the weekend with a 4 - 0 loss to Newcastle Busters. Leo Kelly was brilliant in the Newcastle goal and deserved the shutout. shutout. Last Friday we defeated the Peterborough Relics 4 - 3. Grant Wright played a fine game in the Bowmanville goal, Peterborough jumped out to 1 - 0 lead and it was not until the second period that Roger Shingler drove in a rising blast from the point to tie the contest. Bob Deblois and George Sainsbury put us ahead with two high and accurate shots from just over the blue-line, The Peterborough Peterborough team fought back with two third period goals but Bob Deblois proved to be the hero of the day as he scored the winner with another accurate shot to the top left corner. checking forwards accomplished accomplished this feat. A power play goal unassisted unassisted by Rob Schlecter in the first period and a goal by Scott Heard from Steve Taylor is all the Eagles needed to defeat the Little Britain Merchants.
