Meeting The December meeting and Pot Luck Dinner held at the home of Janice MacKenzie proved meaningful with eleven present. Joanne Malcolm presented the fine worship reading Luke 2:8-20, and Mathew 1:1-13, followed by a poem of interest. Several favorite carols were sung. Janice gave a reading, "Slow me down, Lord." Members spent some time sorting out the boxes for Operation Scugog to be delivered shortly. A cookie exchange brought the meeting to a close. An evening of enjoyment for the young members. Family Visitations Mrs. Neta Fish, Nestleton, spent a few enjoyable days with her daughter Audrey and Jim Leishman, Jamie, Michael, and W.D. of Reaboro, a week ago. Baptismal Party After the Sunday service at Nestleton United, a lovely baptismal luncheon was "hosted" by parents Roy and Kay Notman at their home west of Nestleton Village for members pf the family. She was a fine lady, born and raised in Cart- Blackstock News By Joyce Kelly Sincere congratulations are extended to Mrs. Alma Taylor who celebrated her 87th birthday birthday last week with a family gathering to honor the happy event. Mrs. Taylor is now a resident of the Port Perry Nursing Home and welcomes visits from relatives and friends. After a time of serious illness in the summer, Mrs. Taylor enjoys fairly good health now. Happy Birthday, Mrs. Taylor. Howard Bailey is at home for the next term as he is on the work period on the Co-Op Program from Wilfred Laurier University. Presently he is working in Toronto and commuting daily from Black- stock. So it is really alright - Howard has not been thrown out of school. Quite a number of university university students were home this past weekend and many participated in the Junior Farmers Winter Zone Games held on Saturday in Cobourg. Congratulations to the local group who placed second in the competition. On Wednesday, January 8, the Lions entertained about 25 guests during their first Open House to help mark their fifth year of service. The Lions District Governor, Bill Houston, gave an insight into Lionism and Regional Representative Representative for C.N.I.B., Bill Brown, thanked our community community for the generous support in the past Township canvasses. A brief history of our Club was presented by Bill Turner. Following the evening's program, coffee and doughnuts doughnuts were enjoyed while people socialized. It was an informative evening for those in attendance. On Tuesday the Ladies' Curling Club held a Jitney at the Curling Rink. It was a very enjoyable day of curling and fellowship including a pot luck lunch. Leah Frew won the raffle of a beautiful painting done by Carl Flatten. First place was won by the Rink of Joyce Kelly, Carol Gray, Lisa Kristensen and Barb Byers. Kathy McLaughlin, Kathleen Petrie, Helen Coates and Maureen Porter came in second with Elaine Bailey, Mary DeMerchant, Helen Nesbitt and Rosie Hassall taking third place. The ladies expressed appreciation to Schedule Manager Pat Milson and Club President Kathy McLaughlin for organizing such a great day and to Ice- makers Bob and Vern for providing providing good conditions. Many of our young hockey players are involved in Hockey Tournaments both here and in other places. Good luck on your games fellows. Nestleton, who are members of the Port Perry Figure Skating Club competed in the annual Scugog Frolic at the Lindsay Arena recently. Alisa came in first in her division winning a gold medal and Lisa came in third winning a bronze. Many competitors were on hand for the event and competition was keen! The Sam Cawkers of Scugog Point Road had an interesting Sunday afternoon a week ago when some lively young folks dropped in at the farm for a bit of diversion. Curtis Cawker, Christine Kidd, Rob Smith and Bruna Lazarich of Oshawa, brought along their ,ski-doos and All-terrain vehicles and enjoyed the fresh snow cruising cruising about on their machines! Later, they were guests for coffee and hot muffins. So good to see the kids!
