"1 \ 6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, February 5,1986 A guide to fine dining and entertainment. News and Happenings from Elizabethville On Thursday the seniors had their pot luck dinner but not as many attended. The Gardiner twins, Ona and Jim celebrated their birthdays. We played games for a while but had to leave as the hydro went off after dinner and it was too cold without the furnace going. Several in the area have seen eight deers, 2 bucks and 6 does feeding in fields along Road 9 and the 9th line north of here, lately. The earthquake tremor was felt by many in the area. I was sitting with my back against the outside wall and I felt a dull thud and a vibration vibration for a few seconds. I thought an electric charge had caused the electric ■ stove to shake but a few minutes minutes later Betty Kennedy on CFRB said that there had been an earthquake. Sympathies are extended to relatives and friends in. the death of the late Birdena Elliott who was buried on Thursday. Several Several in the area attended the funeral in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Beatty and Shirley Yaremo, Mr. and Mrs. A. Peacock, Mr. and Mrs. J. Peacock, Mr. and Mrs. K. Trew attended the Farm Machinery Show in Toronto one day last week. Church services were held as usual. Mrs. King was with us. The choir sang. We have a new bouquet of artificial artificial flowers for the winter months which brightens up the altar. I presume that Mrs. Ritchie was reponsi- ble. Mrs. King told the story of a boy who wouldn't let anyone play with his new toy and he soon found that he had no friends. A lesson in sharing. Scriptures read were Jeremiah 1:4-10,17-19, Luke 4:21-32. This tells of the Lord calling Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations nations and he was made. stronger to help him; but still he was afraid. When Jesus started to speak to his people and they recognized him as Joseph's son he answered a prophet is never welcome in his own town. He referred to Elijah who wasn't sent to anyone in Israel but to another part of the country. There were many people suffering from want due to no rain. Elijah preached to the ones with plenty to share with those who were in need. A lesson in sharing. Mr. Taylor and Mr. Peacock took up the offering offering and Mr. Banister was at the door. Coffee was served downstairs. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hughes, Port Hope, spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer. They played cards some of the time and the ladies quilted on a quilt that Mrs.. Mercer had in the frames. Mr. and Mrs. P. Mercer with Mr. and Mrs. C. Mercer on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Mary Trew and Jonathon were with Mr. and Mrs. R. Beatty one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. G.
