Baptists Hold Russian Night By Betty Marti Friday evlcning last was "Russian Njght" at Bowmanville Bowmanville Baptist*! Church.' Starting at 6:30;'a delicious supper of authentic. Russian Russian cuisine, prepared by the ladies of the church, was served to the large turn- • out. Following this, a film entitled entitled "More Than Conquerors" Conquerors" was presented. This film was made in secret secret by born again believers of the Russian Evangelical Baptist Church and graphically graphically depicted the persecution persecution which the church is undergoing undergoing at the hands of the K.G.B. Pastors are beaten, exiled and imprisoned. Families are torn asunder, never to know if they will meet again in this life. And many of the faithful are tortured tortured or put to death for the stand they take. But throughout it all, the indomitable indomitable spirit of these embattled Christians of all ages is abundantly evident, and they are prepared to sacrifice everything for their unquenchable faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It was a stirring and dramatic film, often sad, but nevertheless gloriously triumphant, again and again demonstrating the fact that the church of Christ is never stronger •than when it faces persecution. persecution. God's Word says: "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: 'For your sake we face death all day long; we are' considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." -- Romans Romans 8:35-37 (N.I.V.) Following the film, there was a lively question and answer period conducted by the guest speaker, Pastor John Huk. Pastor Huk broadcasts the gospel into the Soviet Union via the powerful radio station at Monte Carlo, and his message message is received joyfully by the Russian Christians, many of whom do not even own a Bible. » Van Belle Floral Shoppes ... much more than a flower store! 4 STORES • Highway No. 2 • King SI.
