When they have completed their puppets they will make plays based on fables, fairy tales, nursery rhymes or their own original ideas. Science books in our school and public library have been vanishing from the shelves as students trÿ.to come up with a unique idea. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Mr. Murdoch. We hope to see him back at the school soon. Last year in Ontario 2,150 people were treated for rabies exposure. As a result, the Ontario Ministry of Health is urging all residents to be extremely cautious. Since the disease is fetal to humans as well as pets, anyone who's been in contact with a rabid animal must take a series of shots. You can protect your family by taking these simple precautions. First, vaccinate your pets against rabies. Second, keep them on a leash. Third, everyone, especially children, should be taught to avoid strays and wildlife that might carry rabies. Always wear gloves when handling a dead animal. Remember, farm animals can be infected too. Protect your family and friends by protecting your pets from rabies. It's no way for a friend to die. Or at least for a few days. For the dreaded black cloud called winter has finally passed on. Jack Frost fell off the rooftop and Suzie Snowflake Snowflake melted away. But let's get right to the point. I'm here to pass on a few thoughts on a kid's signs of spring. Are you familiar with hiding your muddy pants in the dirty clothes hamper to escape a long lecture? Is your mother ranting and raving about the small muddy footprints in the front hall? Or does she repeat in a dreary tone "No you can't take off your longjohns and yes you have to put on that jacket"? Does your teacher scold you for wearing your "inside shoes" outside? Are you forced forced to stay on the crowded pavement when you'd rather be out on the sodden field kicking around a ball during recess? Are you dreaming of baseball and riding your bike to school while your teacher drones on about fractions? Well, there are a few fresh signs of spring and now I'd like to lend you my advice. Enjoy spring in spite of parents and teachers. By the way, the staff and students of Lockhart School would like to thank all the parents who helped provide refreshments for our skip-a- thon. The flavorful orange drink soothed many a dry throat. As for the skip-a-thon, it was a hopping sensation thanks to Mr. Witheridge's keen supervision. by Editor: Mike Smith Orono School News Reporters: LesliePlayek and Melanie Rypetra Mr. Stevens' grade six class is now in the process of making a project for an Environmental Environmental Studies mark. The first period was uneventful. uneventful. There were many offsides and although Square Boy outshot Kool 13 to 3, neither team scored. Late in the second period, Kool beat Square Boy's goalie for this game. Dave Killens, high on his glove side to get the game opener. Square Boy put the pressure on Kool's goalie after that and it paid off. Dave Poirier and Paul Crago picked up assists on a nice goal by Jim Pithie after he headed in alone on Jeffreys and beat him on his stick side to tie the game and David Kichko scored an unassisted unassisted goal with only 10 seconds left in the period to give us a 2 to 1 lead heading into the third period. I felt that Square Boy dominated dominated the entire game as the shots on net were 40 to 15 in their favor, but with three minutes left in the game, the score was still 2 to 1. At this time, Square Boy had a man advantage and had many scoring opportunities. In particular, Kool's goalie beat us on a three on one drive down the ice. The pre- severence paid off as we finally finally scored two more markers in the final minutes of the game. Poirier scored on assists from Pithie and Beth and Martin Vanderheyden scored on a pass by Shaun Carlton. The final score 4 to 1 gave Square Boy a solid first place berth in the league and a chance to wait for the other teams to play off best two out of three for the semi-finals.
