2 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, May 21, 1986 Section Two Spotlight on Nadine Stapleton Orono Fair Queen Nadine Stapleton still has a lot of reigning to do before she gives up the crown this September. by Catherine Denny What a difference a year makes! : Last summer Nadine Stapleton was an average high schooler with average expectations and an average average life. Today, she is a reigning Queen meeting exciting exciting new challenges and a variety of friends from all over the world. The Orono Fair Queen, crowned in September 1985, can't even believe the difference herself between the old and the new Nadine. "Before I did this I was really really nervous about speaking in public," explained the 17-year-old beauty. "Now, since I've been talking at banquets and meetings. I'm not so afraid...I think it's a lot of fun." In addition to representing representing the Fair and assisting in all the events during the three-day show, Nadine has attended various agricultural agricultural conventions and intriguing intriguing modelling, speech, and photo sessions to help prepare her for the up and coming CNE competition. "I'll be up against 110 girls for the Miss CNE title," said the Clarke High School ^ MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY MIDWAY g g .. Q : § L MIDWAY MOTOIV, *■» | y 7 T*'j iHSEBEEBSSr ! That's the way our 17- year-old queen thinks now, but before she became the fair's representative, the story was a little different. "I was talked into entering the competition," laughed Nadine. "I wasn't planning on winning." But win she did. Judged mainly on how she presented herself and her talents (she spoke on the 4- H Homemakers Club for the talent segment) Nadine was chosen as Queen and symbol symbol of the agricultural fair. Crowning of the new queen will take place the first night of the opening of the Orono Fair this fall, but not before our local beauty attends many more banquets, banquets, meets more friends and takes her place on stage at the CNE where she hopes to take home the title.
