NATURAL RESOURCES For an Enjoyable Vacation Visit Lindsay District Parks By Bill Elliott Superintendent, Balsam Lake Park The Lindsay district provincial parks opened to visitors on May 9th, 1986. As in the past, the four camping . parks, Balsam Lake, Emily, Serpent Mounds and Darlington, will be subject to an alcohol ban from May 9th to May 19th inclusive. This is an attempt to ensure that the peaceful experience most campers expect in provincial parks is attained. Everyone who visits a provincial park is entitled to a peaceful and relaxing time; the ministry is attempting to ensure all visitors understand their .responsibility to fellow visitors and do not cause disruptions through loud "music and excessive noise at any time. After May 19th, 1986, a, registered camper and guest may have alcoholic beverages on the campsite only. No one is permitted to drink or have an open container of any type of alcoholic beverage in any other area of the park, including park roads, beaches or picnic grounds. The Ministry of Natural Resources asks our park visitors to remember the one basic rule in Ontario Provincial Provincial Parks, "Have respect and consideration for your fellow visitors and the park environment." Parks Are For People-To Enjoy By Bill Elliott Superintendent, Balsam Lake Park Three Toronto area men learned the hard way that Balsam Lake Provincial Park is not the place to hold a noisy party. Donald Karch and David R. McBain of Scarborough and Craig H. Pryce of Toronto, appeared in Victoria County Court on March 21,1986 to face charges of excessive noise and failing to leave the premises when directed. The three men were camping at Balsam Lake Provincial Park on the Labour Day weekend in September, 1985. Due to the loud noises, abusive language and the lack of consideration for the peace of fellow campers, the three men were charged by park wardens for making excessive noise. The three men were evicted from the park, however, they refused to leave and were charged under the Trespass to Property Act for failing to leave the park when requested by park officials. Eventually two men were arrested and removed from the park. The three individuals were convicted of the Charges and fined a total of $339. Had the three men respected the one basic rule that applies in all provincial parks, "Have respect and consideration for your fellow visitors and the park environment," environment," they could have saved themselves a lot of grief, money and a court appearance. $ 4,OOO Raised For MS/ Fund Management and union workers joined forces last week, raising close to $4,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research. research.
