Region Pays yjp Hairstyling Draw Raises 9 200 for Hospital . 45% More for Its Insurance Dmfham's regional council council wBl be spending close to $800,000 this year to provide insurance coverage for the Durham Region. "There has been a general general loosening of the liability liability insurance market," observed observed Jim Witty, chairman of Durham's finance committee committee during a regional council session in Whitby last Wednesday. This has meant that Durham has found it somewhat somewhat easier to obtain coverage coverage than did municipalities faced with the prospect of renewing their insurance in January. Nevertheless, the Region will pay approximately 45 per cent more for coverage in 1986/87 than in the 1985/ 86 year for an initial package package insuring against liability, liability, damage to automobile fleet, and environmental liability. Durham also opted for a further $7.5 million million in liability coverage which will cost $45,714. Councillor Witty explained that the Region felt the additional liability protection was "a good insurance insurance buy." Councillor Tom Edwards disagreed ,with the decision. decision. He stated that municipalities municipalities should move towards towards self-insurance. "As long as these increases continue, continue, more and more municipalities municipalities are going to go along the same route," he said.
