Coulter, Downs- view, Mr. Floyd Coulter, Kevin and Keith, Campbell- ville were Sunday visitors with Miss Dorrene Powell and Floyd, Lake Shore. Then all, with Russell and Maureen Powell, Jack and Hazel Crago enjoyed a great dinner at Ron and Bertha's. Some of us were really cool in their pool on such a hot day ! Miss Cathy Scott, Toronto spent last Wednesday, Thursday Thursday and Friday at home with her parents, John and Wilma Scott. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wade visited last Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Watts, Harwood, Harwood, and enjoyed dinner with them. On Sunday at St. Saviour's Hall, Orono, a family shower was held in honour of the McBride-Harris couple, who will be wed later this month. Mrs. Kathleen Kimball attended this shower. Misses Karen and Jackie Skelding, Port Perry, spent thé weekend with their grandmother, grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding. Skelding. Last Wednesday evening, Mrs. Madeleine Buckley returned from a two and a half week stay with her family, the Tom Buckley's and Jamie, in Calgary. Many Newcastle residents enjoyed the July 1st barbecue at Newtonville United Church, and the Orono Horticultural Salad Supper on Thursday evening. On Tuesday, July 1st, Mrs. Beth Markle, Andrew and Alyssa and her friend Jeff Lasenby, Scarborough visited Beth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell. Weekend visitors with the Stanley Powells were Dale Hunt, Russell and Graydon, Pontypool. On Sunday evening, all had supper at the Hunt's in Pontypool. Miss Judy Powell and Jill Coombes, Bowmanville, were also supper supper guests at Dale and Wayne's. On Sunday, Sam and Margaret Margaret Brereton were pleasantly pleasantly surprised by a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bull, of Trenton. She and Luella Adair went to the Middleton Farm on the Third Line, pulling flax. The flax had to be pulled by root and tied up in bundles or stocks using flax for ties. The weather was so warm and the field had no shade and the young lady suffered a mild sunstroke. She would have hated a severe sunstroke! Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldred attended the funeral of her aunt Mr. R. Bowen (Lina Brown) on Thursday in Oshawa. We extend our sympathy. sympathy. Miss Audrey Sunday returned home last week from a ten-day holiday on Manitoulin Island. It was encouraging to have some juniors in attendance. Business Business was conducted, one item being a request from the Chamber of Commerce for floats in their September 1st parade, which will bear an animal theme. Betty Blaker operated the projector for the showing of a film about an orphaned squirrel, entertaining entertaining to young and old alike. After strawberry shortcake and beverages were served, judge Merle Slute gave comments comments about the show exhibits. James Small officiated at a Memorial Service held in St. George's for the late John Vandenberg of Wilmot Creek. United Church News Several Newcastle worshippers worshippers enjoyed the Orono Service at the United Church. Flowers were in memory of Mrs. R. Bowen (Lina Brown of Lake Shore) and placed by her niece, Loreen and Ken Ball. Flowers were also placed by the family of the late Mae Allin. Service on July 13th will be held at ten o'clock at Kirby United Church. New Planning Deputy Director Larry Taylor, a Current Operations Planner with the municipality, was appointed appointed Deputy Director of Planning as of last Monday. In his new position he will deal more extensively with subdevelopment and will have more authority in the Planning Department. Mr. Taylor has been a planner for 12 years and has been with the town since December, 1982. He has studied planning at Mohawk College in Hamilton Hamilton and Urban Studies at York University. TERRY WAYNE MILLER Terry Wayne Miller, son of Irv and Sharon Miller, Newcastle, graduated Dean's Honor List from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
