ii I i ;y 16 The Canadian Statesman, Yelverton [Intended for last week] On Saturday the Auction Sale of thé Mrs. Madeline Kerr and the late Russel Kerr attracted hundreds of interested buyers and/ or spectators from miles around. The vast collection of antiques and memorabilia of yesteryear yesteryear (3 generations in some cases), was of special interest and the thousands of items kept the 2 auctioneers busy for several hours. Madje had sold a couple of properties last fall and used this popular method of disposing of her surplus furniture, household effects and farm equipment. The weatherman co-operated in providing a lovely bright but not oppressively warm day. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Staples of St. John's, Michigan were visitors this week with their daughter Mandy and son-in- law Quentin Robinson. Trust they enjoyed their stay in our community. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wilson Wilson are currently enjoying a bus trip to U.S.A. which included a trip to Washington. Wonder if they dropped in to see Ronnie and Nancy? Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beggs, Crystal and Stacey of Port Elgin visited both Norma and Jim's relatives in the Ponty- pool and Yelverton area this long weekend. They were home soon enough to see Norm and Isabel off to Washington. Miss Mona Malcolm and Ronnie Sherman were joined by quite a variety of other peers for a mass migration to the cottage of Mona's sister, Mitzi and Bob Kick, near Eagle Lake this weekend. Lucky the first tornado missed them! Marti and Jane Malcolm of Omemee were guests at the Burns' wedding in Lindsay on Saturday. Miss Candy Malcolm Malcolm of Toronto was also scheduled to attend the wedding wedding dance. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Malcolm, Malcolm, who have spent several days this week at a Convention in P.E.I., are scheduled to arrive back in Toronto on Sunday in time to take off again to attend an International International Farm Business Administration Administration Seminar in Minneapolis, Minneapolis, U.S.A. this week. These seminars, conventions conventions or what have you are international in nature and are held at a different country every four years. Rev. John Sloan preached his farewell sermon at the three points of Janetville charge on Sunday. Following the service at Yelverton church, a pot-luck dinner was provided in the church hall. Following the dinner Quentin Robinson acted at M.C. and invited Rev. John Sloan to a seat on the platform and was then subjected to a vocal duet by Mandy and Quentin - a parody on John's year's ser- vice on our charge - "So long, so good to know you." John replied, expressing his appreciation appreciation for the gathering and friendships made during his tenure of office. Around 100 members of the three congregations congregations were present on the occasion. Rev. Sloan will take over duties at Knox United Church in Peterborough later ' in the year. During the Yelverton Church service the "dynamic duo" of Linda's - Linda Pfoh and Linda Page provided a piano-organ duet which was much appreciated. Congratulations Congratulations to Linda Page who recently passed her exams of the Royal Conservatory of Music. , The July services in the Janetville charge will be as follows: Single service will be held each Sunday at 10 a.rn., July 7 at Janetville, July 13 at Yelverton and July 20th at Mt. Horeb. The Mt. Horeb service will be followed by a picnic at Ops Community Centre, we understand. A large contingent of well ' wishers were present from Yelverton on Sunday afternoon afternoon at the Parish Hall in Bethany to congratulate Robert and Marian Sisson on the auspicioüs occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. anniversary. Best wishes to this popular popular couple for many more years together. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hanna (nee Ann Kerr) who were recently married in Lindsay with the reception^and dance in Janetville Janetville Comjnunity Hall. Sorry to learn that Mr. Joe Hurtig was taken to Port Perry Hospital this week and later to bshawa General Hospital Hospital for treatment for a breathing problem from which he is currently suffering. suffering. All join in wishing Joe a speedy return to good health. Last week a number of our Lindsay Co-op employees participated in the annual golf tournament for U.C.O. employees employees held near Beaverton. One of the Lindsay male employees won second place in the overall standing and also demonstrated a "keen eye for beauty" with his golfing golfing inaccuracy on the greens. On Monday, June 30, Corrie and I were scheduled to spend the day with Mitzi and Bob Fick at their cottage near Eagle Lake to observe Mitzi's birthday. Haying in the area is progressing progressing at a snail's pace between showers as it were with more heavy rains (1" or more) recorded than normal.
